It's the same thing if a man wants to do something like daycare or nursing (although I'd bet there's still far less pushback from people for the guy.)

I suspect just as much, but probably more of the form 'you want to go into nursing? What a wuss.'

That's only when it's nice. A man trying to work on child care is most likely a child molester/abuser.

Seriously, Luis? What's the difference between this and assuming that women shouldn't bother with IT because their brains aren't wired for it? Either you accept equality, or you don't.

I think Luis was voicing "popular opinion", not his own opinion.

That does remind me of the uproar when a guy was hired at the toddler daycare where our children went. At least half the parents were very worried, and there had never been such concerns when a new woman was added to the staff.

This reminds of a couple years ago when the Boy Scouts changed their policy to allow openly gay scouts to be members. Previously they were not allowed, mostly would be the "Don't ask, don't tell" mentality. Being on the board for my sons pack one of the members from the district stated he was worried they were going to allow openly gay adult leaders. He said that no gay man has any right to be around young boys. I totally went off on that gay and told him that just because a man is gay does not make him a pedophile. I doubt it made any difference as he was an older man (late 70s) and he clearly believed his stance was correct. I pointed out that by using the same logic he should not be allowed to be around young girls. He never did understand that it is the same thing. I mean, clearly since he wasn't gay he was going to warp these young girls right??? Sheesh.

Men can't be Girl Scout leaders, period. Whereas, tons of women Scoutmasters, Cubmasters, etc. It all gets so weird, so fast.

Luckily, I never had a parent question me on it prior to all the changes. I would have let gay kids into the troop/pack and I'd let a gay person be leader too. No questions asked because, frankly, it's none of my business. Do you know how to teach the merit badge in question? Are you following two-deep leadership (cause if you are, everything else is off the table anyway)? If you're qualified and following the rules, all the rest is no big deal. Or, at least, it should be.

Nothing like listening to the developers sitting 2 rows behind me spend half an hour trying to figure out what max server memory should be, and not come and ask for help (and they don't want help)

That's pretty much why I quit my last job. We actually had a Microsoft consultant come in and say "Why are you asking me this question? Grant Fritchey is sitting right over there." I started looking for work.

Of course we follow two-deep leadership at all times. Honestly the whole thing is such a silly discussion. I have never considered someones preferences in the bedroom a prerequisite for treating people a certain way. I don't care what anybody does on their own time. The discussion I was referring was with our Unit Commissioner. He has since retired his post, probably in fear of the gays taking over or some other completely off base and irrational fear. Let's face it, there have been gay people in all walks of society since before we could even write down our history. It is only in the last (very) few decades that acceptance has started happening which sadly still causes a lot of people great discomfort. Quite sad really.

Actually that is pretty sweet. If you click "View" at the top you can order them descending and the newest is at the top. 🙂

Nice catch, Sean.  I was looking around wondering because it looks fine to me.  Noted for future reference.

  • So I recently (and finally) got around to setting up a job to capture the batch requests / sec counter to a table so I can monitor my servers performance.
Here I am, looking at one of my production boxes occasionally "bursting" up to around 250-350 requests / sec with no issues thinking that might be odd.  Then I read an article from someone whose server regularly hovers around 3500 with no complaints...

Obviously, my servers are nowhere near as busy as that persons...

    But hey!
At least no one's complaining about the performance, either!

Now to add in capturing some CPU %s

What do you think?  Gremlins or a glitch in the matrix?

  • It's cold and snowy. That's the reason.

  • It's 70 and sunny. In Pittsburgh. In February. That's the reason.
