WHOOP! Two sessions this year, plus we'll be doing one for SQL Clone. I'm very excited about Bits, as usual. What is the theme this year?

One session, but it's a double-length and it's one I've presented before so minimal work needed (just need to cram some Columnstores in).
I think the theme is "Disco", but haven't seen anything official.

    Disco is correct.

I've got a (long-ish) session on Saturday that I have done before. Need some prep work and need to come to acceptance with missing a great-lloking session by Uwe Ricken at the same time.
I'm also presenting a precon on Wednesday, for which I will have to put in the work to get it fully up to date.

Last year there was a mix of precons and regular sessions on Thursday, is that not the case this year? If there are only precons, I'll have to decide if there is any precon I'd like to pay to attend, or if I will spend a day in the hotel.

Ah well, I'll start polishing my Hustle skills. I can probably remember the Bus Stop too if forced.
Hmmm.... Roller skates may be called for here....

I am shocked at how many people are still creating new applications in VB6, Delphi, VFP and classic ASP.

What would you suggest them to use?
Something which could compile a code executable on any machine with any version of OS installed?
And not dependable on a correct version of .net framework installed across the board?
Which continuously needs fixes to its security vulnerabilities.
    Not to mention licensing.

You know, a nail gun is so much more advanced comparing to a hammer.
But you'd be amazed, how many even professional builders use hammers on a daily basis.
    Not to mention DIY'ers.

Not sure how the hammer vs nail gun is a valid argument here. Those are two distinct tools used for driving nails. They are both currently still under active support. However, VB6, VFP and class ASP all are long out of active support. Delphi manages to continue to limp along but in your DIY example they are using a proprietary type of nail that can only be driven by a special hammer by someone who has had a decade of training how to use it and the last class was taught around 15 years ago.

  • Yep it's 70s Disco themed!

I thought about working out a Michael Glazier style Starsky outfit for the party and Saturday. Nice thick jumper etc... but I was at the mercy of the local costume hire shop which is sadly shutting down. They had one 70s outfit left in my size. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Hugo. Yes it looks as though they have dropped the mixed Thursday and just gone with Pre Cons. Well you can always go and explore Telford. that should keep you busy for two hours. Not sure what you could do for the rest of the day!

Grant I see you have been given the early bird slot on Saturday. Nice.... lots of hung over half asleep attendees - hehe

I don't remember the seventies (was 3 years old at the end of them).
Dunno if I'm going to bother with a costume this time.

OK, we need pics of Grant, in a leisure suit, platform shoes, with an afro, dancing to disco music...

  • I intend on buying coffee (maybe even a slice of cake) for everyone that has helped me over the past year on the forums when/if I see them at sqlbits. If you don't like coffee then TEA it is! If you don't like tea or coffee then perhaps a hot chocolate.

    thanks

Not sure where I'm going to get platform shoes. Anyone have a pair of 10.5 I can borrow while in the UK? I don't want to pack them. However, the afro & dancing, I will supply.
