Well, I for one, am sad the NBA ended last night. I was rooting for a Laker's chapionship, but in 6 or 7 games.

Laker's were too good for Orlando, but your Denver almost got them.

Okay, I was dark for about a week and I missed a ton. A troll, troll names (mine came out as "I Want to Spank You Troll"), world cup, confederation cup, apparently a great article on table variables/Temp tables (getting ready to read it), and PASS sessions.
I'm glad I missed the original thread with the troll and glad that Gail is staying on.
I enjoy the world cup (men's and women's) even though as far as soccer goes the U.S. is a second tier nation and I don't think we'll ever get past that.
Apparently the U.S. gave Italy a game in their opener so there is always hope we'll get lucky.
I submitted 2 abstracts for PASS and had both turned down. I knew one would be but I was hopeful for the second, "Diving into the Default Trace", the idea for which I got from Barry. I will be doing that one at user groups. I got my email on June 12th which was last Friday. I can't say I'm really disappointed as I haven't even attended the SUMMIT before so, if I make it, it'll be good to get a feel for it before I ever present at it.
I'm on vacation with sporadic internet access so I'm reading books and should do some articles, but probably won't.:-P

Under options on your forum account there are email settings. One of them is to allow others to send you email via the board. Might want to look at who sent the email before you start jumping to conclusions cause I bet ya it was SSC that sent the email, not GSquared. Not sure why you're getting all huffy about it anyway, GSquared calmly asked what the problem was. As to how he "knew" about "the problem", there are posts this thread (and links to those posts) showing that there was an upset. He wasn't being insulting, just asking what the problem was. I'm sure, if you had told him what it was in a calm manner, he would have tried to answer your question as best he could.
Your response to his email was rude, as was the post you put on this thread. If you felt your privacy was compromised, then it is a matter for the site administrators to handle, not the regular posters on the board. You should have sent your complaint to them directly, rather than wasting our time with it.
edited to fix typo (sigh)
Do you normally address people that don't identify themselves, and may have obtained your information illegally through e-mail? You don't care to know about privacy violations for a site you frequent?
E-mail notifications are off and Gus was able to find both of my e-mail addresses. The one I singed on with originally and the new one. The e-mail did not come from SQL Server Central, but from Gus himself. He admitted it, "The whole reason I sent you a private e-mail instead of posting on the message boards was so that the conversation could be private."
So, I didn't jump to conclusions, you just confirmed my statement about people making accusations they know nothing about.

Actually, you are wrong. Gus even indicated that he sent the email to you via SSC. From your profile, any one on SSC can send you an email without knowing it. Check it out, and if you still don't believe me let me know and I'll send you one because I certainly don't know what it is at the moment. Again, if you don't want to be associated with SSC, send Steve Jones - Editor a PM and request that your account be deleted. I am sure he will do so. I'm also sure that Gus won't send you any more emails, even though you have provided him with your email address by responding to his email sent via SSC.

Oh, my. Here's a bridge tale dredged up from the recesses of childhood memories. Gotta love the sweet surprise of the lilting style and parallel structure climaxing with such frenzy and gore.

I honestly wouldn't bother, unless you want to use it for UG presentations. The chance of it changing from alternate to accepted is slim. I mean, how many presenters are going to pull out and how many alternates have they selected? At best I'd do an outline.Couple years back my submission was 'alternate'. Never heard another word from PASS about it.
I'm not even going to do an outline for my 3rd one. If PASS asks me to do it, I'll ask them to find someone else. Two presentations is enough. I want time to enjoy the conference as well.
Oh, I don't expect to do it. I don't want to do it. I just thought I was contractually required to be ready to do it.
Yeah, I think that we are (or course the legal meaning of the contract may be ambiguous since there is no penalty, remedy or even implicit value stated). I suspect its more of a moral record than anything else. In fact, I think that even the alternates have to have their slides to them by Sept 30th.

Folks, please. Do NOT feed the Tee-Ar-Oh-El-El!
If you are unfamiliar with how trolls work, then look it up on Wikipedia.
Its whole goal is to stoke its delusional sense of importance by provoking responses and interactions from us. It sees this as confirmation of its power and control because it can "force" people to engage in pointless attempts to "Hear the Troll out".
These are pointless because it has no desire to resolve any conflicts, and certainly not the ones that it artificially (and intentionally) created. In short it does not WANT to right any perceived wrongs. It wants to prod you into trying to assuage it, so that it can try to mock you for it. Note the fact that even though our particular troll is so pathetically bad at that last bit is besides the point, they always think that they are great at putting people down, no matter how inept they are.
So, what to do? Well, for one thing, enjoy it. Most trolls suffer from some kind of brain damage or other mental disability. Or both. And this makes them funny when they try to act like grown-up rational adults. But do not feed it or talk to it, it is reaction that drives it. Its OK to talk about it (a little), but do not quote it or address it directly or use any of the illiterate names for itself that it thinks are so clever. Also, don't bother to express any negative emotions with respect to it, that feeds it too.
Here's an interesting fact: did you know that our troll is a Passive-Aggressive Manipulating troll? That's right, these hilarious little ugo's try to make you feel guilty for what they have done or intend to do!
So just remember, little Snarky Malarky can be a source of fun and amusement too! Just so long as we ignore it long enough for boredom to force its ADD, or Tourettes, or Bipolar disorder, or whatever to kick-in and force it to move on to the next site.

Hey Barry,
I'll sign up to that.
BTW, I see that Aaron has his answer. I'm not sure that he fully comprehends all the subtleties - but at least he seems happy. Seeing as he nearly gave up and left, I think that's quite a result. Not sure I'll be rushing into the fray next time with quite so much enthusiasm, but hey.

As I mentioned, when one of mine was alternate 2 years ago, I didn't hear another word from PASS after that. No request for slides, no reminders of deadlines, nothing. Though, could be that the agreement has changed since then. I haven't yet looked at this year's one.
Maybe ask Linda Rab for confirmation?

Barry, I think you're "spot on" with your assessment. So, how 'bout them Cubs??? 😀
Edit: Jack, nice photo.....looks like holiday is treating you well - maybe TOO well! 😎

But the little things are so cute... and... furry... and... did you know they cast a spell that makes it difficult to not feed them?
But, luckily there is a charm against their infernal spells (has to do with keyboards, the light of the new moon and has a mouse or two in there in there as well.) So, no more feeding. Although, I will admit to amusement at the constant name change.
Cubs? I don't follow football... or it is baseball? :hehe:
