I have removed the account of our (un)professional1 friend from the system and deleted threads. Apologies to those of you that had to deal with him/her. It was a bogus hotmail address. Some people.
That type of attitude is exactly why I worry about personalities when I interview. I put technical skills way below dealing with someone that can't properly communicate, or is unwilling to work with others.
This makes me think that he was worse than a jerk, that he was in fact a Troll (that is, someone who does this kind of thing as a prank, for fun). That actually makes a lot more sense because Gail's first reply didn't seem in anyway connected to his response of immediately flaming everything.

Heh... just a troll passing by. Seems like there's one doozy every 3 months or so. You can't watch everything. The bad part is that some of the good folks take it so hard but that's all a part of dealing with the public. It's why I never got into the retail business. π
Oops, Jeff already said it. I'm still catching up ... π

I even left SSC way back when even a couple of the supposed "good guys" started acting like real twips. It was a real bummer for me because it caused me to break a personal vow that I'd try to help folks because I had no one to help me when I first started. I went into the ol' "heal yourselves 'cause I don't need the flack" mode for about 6 months.Think I remember that, or at least the end of it.
We've seen some real doozies lately... Remember the "MVP" that thought he was the greatest thing since sliced-bread about 3 months ago? He did about the same thing as this latest dog pile did and it might even be the same moroff
All too well. I don't think it's the same person. Different flavour of arrogance.
I'd argue that the 'MVP' was worse. He at least should know better. If I imagine that yesterday's twat is relatively new in IT and still young enough to believe that he's $Deity's gift to IT, the outburst becomes a little more understandable. Not forgivable, just understandable.
There was also the fairly nasty email that I got a few weeks back though, I must admit, I got an apology several days later.
I'm proud to be on the same ship as the team mate known as the "Gila Monster". You epitomize the very spirit of what the MVP award is all about.
Thanks Jeff.

I have removed the account of our (un)professional1 friend from the system and deleted threads. Apologies to those of you that had to deal with him/her.Thank you. Btw: There's no reason whatsoever for you to apology! You didn't do anything wrong nor did you miss anything you should have done. It's one of the responsibilities of this community to let you know if administrative action might be considered. And, as soon as it has been brought to your attention, you took immediate action. What else to ask for? From my side, I'm going to close that chapter and try to forget it. On the other side there is one thing that guy was good for: he reminded me of the value of all of you folks here at SSC and that your effort and professionalism is something special and valuable. Edit: typo fixed.
So it looks like there are cliques on this site.
Be warned, that these professionals will dwell on past mistakes, make presumptions about you, and even revert to name calling. It seems as if they have been on the site for too long, and now care more about it's administration and their own personal interests as opposed to providing insightful answers.
In my case posting was frowned upon, because I hadn't spent enough time getting to know the people on the site and make my post in their particular format. Instead of just rereading my post and trying to provide a more insightful answer, they spent the next day berating it.
Hopefully your experience will differ.

My hotmail address is not bogus. Feel free to e-mail me there. Why would you make something like that up.
This is the type of personality I worry about when interviewing. People who will do or say anything to make themselves look good.

LOL. The guy who wanted to be removed IMMEDIATELY is back...
Don't care, usually (s)he removes his own posts after some hours. π

FYI, if any of you come across this, I ask for a little bit of slack here, I am going somewhere with this. (Or, alternatively check out the personal history (I don't mean about me)).
Don't jump in yet, please. π

Oh goody, we finally have our very own pet troll! I mean, sure we sort of have one already, but he only comes around once in a while and he's not a real troll, more of a frustrated spammer.
But this, this is a real honest to goodness harassing, haranguing, unreasonable, irrational, flaming troll! What shall we name it? π

I thought you wanted your account removing because you didn't want to read or post here any longer.
In my case posting was frowned upon, because I hadn't spent enough time getting to know the people on the site and make my post in their particular format.
I asked you, politely, to please in future post new questions in a new thread, which is standard newsgroup and forum etiquette, is much the same everywhere and has been the standard for many years. I did so after providing an answer to your question, though apparently not the one you wanted. I admit, I posted that fairly late at night and possibly could have explained in more detail.
Instead of just rereading my post and trying to provide a more insightful answer, they spent the next day berating it.
I answered your question as best I could three times, two times in more detail to clarify what was said in the initial answer. Apparently either I misunderstood your question or you misread my answers. Either way you started being insulting instead of asking for clarification or explaining exactly what it was you wanted.
It seems as if they have been on the site for too long, and now care more about it's administration and their own personal interests as opposed to providing insightful answers.
As for insightful answers or personal interests, I'll let my posting history speak for itself.

Help to me why someone who wanted their account canceled (and it was) is suddenly back on a site that they decided they wanted NOTHING to do with because of cliques?
You are the one that started insulting and berating others. Some of us attempted to offer you some constructive criticism so that you could make the best of this site and actually learn something regarding SQL Server, which you promptly ignored.
You didn't want to be a part of this site, then, and you obviously still don't, so I ask you nicely now, go away. Don't go away mad, just go away.
I will state again for the record, there are no cliques here on SSC. We are a community of professionals, and we will welcome others who seek such a community. As such certain behaviour is expected, as well as other behaviour that isn't.

Well, I just had to come back to clear up the unprofessional, false accusations the editor made.
I can quote people calling me a jerk, an a$$hole, a twit, a troll etc. How is that professional? Could you point out a quote where I used that kind of language (since as you pointed out, all of my posts were captured in quotes)? I merely stated facts.
Plus, all of these responses are just validating everything I have stated so far. I don't question that there is some good information on this site, it's just some of the overbearing patronizing posters.

[font="Verdana"]Okay. dictionary definition time:
dictionary.com
clique/klik, klik/ noun, verb, cliqued, cliquing.βnoun
1. a small, exclusive group of people; coterie; set.
βverb (used without object)
2. Informal. to form, or associate in, a clique.
You could argue that there are or are not "cliques" on this site, depending on whether you mean the verb or the noun. I have never found this site "exclusive" -- the only people it excludes are those who exclude themselves by not being able to ask a question, be polite, be patient, etc.
This site is, by it's very nature, an association of professionals. So in that sense, the entire site is a "clique" (well, except for the lack of exclusionary nature, so... maybe not). That's the whole idea.
Sounds to me more like a case of sour gummi bears.

If you act that way, there are people on this site that will call you on it, some much quicker than others. All you have done is antagonize and berate others. You didn't like an answer and you got snide and rude instead of simply asking for additional clarification. You then asked how do you cancel your account, and stated you wanted off. Well you got your wish but you "had" to come back? Actually, no you didn't. You could have just stayed away, and we would never have thought about you again.
As for me, after this, I will chose to simply ignore you and any further comments you may make. You simply aren't worth time or effort, and trust me, I have busted mine trying to help defficult OP's in the past when others have given up hope.
