In other news, today I overheard m'colleague saying "maybe the DBA team would be a beacon..."

at which point I lost the plot.

are you sure it wasn't ... would be eating bacon?

    Rodders...

    No, this was after breakfast.

WAIT! Who only eats bacon at breakfast time?

Weird world you live in where that would be true.

It's not yet lunchtime. Give me a chance... πŸ™‚

...plus, in his case, he's a vegetarian, so...

I like it. πŸ˜€ The history of Texas, with the cattle drives of the past, has ingrained beef deeply into their culture. Generally speaking, they don't even consider pork to be BBQ!!! :w00t::w00t::w00t:

I quite liked how it mentions Version 5, which I don't think saw the light of day commercially, did it?

But wow dig those old minimum requirements :w00t:

Um, in other news, text last night around 10 pm from agency about a role in London to start on Oct 31, email this morning about it from the same person... I was then thinking about replying with sorry I'm in America until Nov 12th, when he rings while I was replying to this! I guess its urgent then πŸ™‚

    Rodders...

Where's v 5? Didn't see that in there, and never knew about it. I worked on 3 4.2 systems and we were looking to upgrade. Went to v6.0 ASAP.

  • Can anyone help in a Powershell issue I'm having?

If I can't find a solution, I'll have to convince my lead to use bat files.

It said something like this is due to be fixed in next version (5.0)

    πŸ™‚

I'd only even seen it listed on a MS page or an early version of Inside SQL Server, it was internal, then junked and they jumped to V6 and released that.

Just had a Blast from the past

    😎

First line: "Version 4.2 also lets you nest triggers"

I didn't get any further due to blacking out; came to 10 minutes later in the foetal position under my desk.

Colleagues tell me I let out quite the scream too...

It gets better: the previous paragraph details creating a trigger that calls a remote stored proc, which in turn sends an email to the CEO...

All right. Stop. Just stop. You're endangering your mental health and I don't want to stage an intervention if I don't have to.

Back away from the internet slowly. Put down the mouse. That's it... Step away from the keyboard, turn away from the monitors, leave the mouse behind.

  • On a fun note, my past 24 hours has been taken up by an AG issue which has caused one secondary replica not to synchronize, which caused the log files to fill up on all the servers, basically taking up the entire drive and refusing to shrink down.

So on the advice of the vendor last night, we pulled the database off the AG, deleted it on the secondary nodes and I get to spend the morning fixing the log issue plus deleting excess data from one of its logging tables so we can get its size under control before adding it back to the AG.

    FUN STUFF!

Can I go jump in the lagoon now?

Depends, have the alligators been fed recently?

I don't quite feel your pain, but I'm in the midst of migrating a handful of DBs to a new server. One is ~134GB of data, the DBs are all TDE'ed, and I don't have (and couldn't get in the time available) enough room on the source server to run a backup to. So I'm backing up across the network to the new server...

At least I've got an all-day window to do this, but it gets boring watching the percentages...

Tell me about it. I've had to do that before. And then, right at the last minute, the backup fails because of a network error.
