Are the posted questions getting worse?

    There is a word I do not come across very often. Have to remember to use it on occasion as it does describe various situations.

    I probably could have used intransigence as well...

    The manager in question was averse to implementing DHCP many years back, said manager wanted to continue to statically and manually assign IPs to each computer, server, and printer, then track the IPs in an Excel spreadsheet...

    This for an office that was growing at a moderate rate and already had ~50 server / PCs / printers.

    Also while sticking with each login having to be manually added to each device / resource the user would require...

    I think most of the push back against DHCP was because it was part of a push to deploy Active Directory as well (and this being a "M$" product was probably 90% of the problem for the manager in question...)

    Yeah, the company in question stands up every workstation "from scratch," every time. No two PCs are the same model, there's no standardized OS deployment, nothing. It's not entirely the tech's fault, as much as a managerial obtuseness...

    That's insane.

    My office we've got various makes of laptops (Dell, HP and Asus iirc) and different models, but even with that, if I need to get my laptop rebuilt it takes an hour or two at most. Ok, I still have to install SQL on it and any other non-standard apps, but it'll be working, email accessible, office installed, domain joined when it comes back to me.

    No. But I'll give it a shot. Last time I saw behavior like this, it was because SSIS was running on an app server instead of the database server. So yeah, different execution times between using SSMS and SSIS.

    No. But I'll give it a shot. Last time I saw behavior like this, it was because SSIS was running on an app server instead of the database server. So yeah, different execution times between using SSMS and SSIS.

    I kind of hope that's not the explanation, given that all the package is doing is executing the procs in sequence (if we trust the poster on that).

    Agreed on the insanity. It should take an hour or so to snap an image onto new hardware. To do every single one from scratch is crazy.

    So this Manager(?) is leaving lots of room to standardize and improve the process.

    At some point someone above will catch on.

    And the first co$t $aving measure might send them looking for a new job.

    While there is plenty of room for improvement, it's unlikely to change or that said manager will be put out at the curb. Said manager has been there for well over 20yrs, in pretty much the same position, so...

    It's one thing to do each PC as a one-off at home, but in a business environment it really behooves them to standardize, both on the equipment as on the deployment.

    I've groused about this employer / manager in the past, when I still worked there, it's likely you can find some of that ranting in this thread...
