But I don't know if I can - shouldn't the first full-stop be a comma? I think it would read better and it would just annoy me as it is. I might just have to get it printed elsewhere.

Yep, that should be a comma.

No, a comma is nearly as bad as a full stop, no punctuation is needed at that point.

Without punctuation, the meaning becomes: "If the next trend could be 'thinking that would be great'". Presumably not the intention.

That's not a complete sentence as written, it's missing a second clause.

My favourite Friday shirt (not casual fridays, because every day is casual dress) is one that I got from the MS company store a few years ago. It reads "I'm here because you broke something."

I've been asked not to wear it when visiting clients. 😀

And here's your ranch error of the day for those who like farming, being a rancher, or cows.

Beware the cows, for they are clever and will get even for all the tipping that has been done to them.

Crazy. Trying to overpower livestock or mother nature is a poor idea.

Well, if you miss out the full stop after the word "great" (a version with no punctuation) I don't think it means anything - it's a bunch of words which do not make a sentence. The presence of the final full stop (and the absence of the single quote marks you have added in what you claim would be the meaning) is sufficient to indicate that as entence is intended and the rules of English syntax make it absolutely clear how to parse that sentence.

I'm quite aware that some early 19th century pedants invented rules like "no split infinitives" and "conditional clauses must always be separated from the main clause by commas" and "a clause can't end with a preposition" and "coordinate clauses must always be separated by a comma followed by a conjunction" and "when a noun is qualified by more than one adjective these adjectives must be separated by commas" but I'm also aware that all that nonsense was throughly debunked long ago. But I'm told that there is still a tendency in the USA to teach at least some of that nonsense in schools so maybe the generally accepted conventions in the UK and in the USA are different.

  • Earlier in the year I applied for a PFE role which I didn't get but reached the last round. I was wondering if you guys think it would be valuable if I did a blog post on what I went through, how I prepped and sort of questions I was asked?

I remember trying to find someone/something back when I was going through the process as a reference/guide point?

    thoughts? THANKS!

I would say that if it was something you were looking for and you think your blog post would benefit others than absolutely.

I'd suggest check with MS first, make sure they're fine with it. They could argue that questions and processes are their IP (as with exam questions).

Very true, that might explain why I couldn't find much online. Thanks for the advice.

  • So a book I'm currently reading (highly recommend, I've actually laughed out loud because of what I'm about to tell you) has possibly the BEST explanation for why computer software misbehaves...

    Typos!

Someone was working to create a daemon and mis-spelled it as demon, and well...

It also explains why a certain Redmond-based software company that shall not be named goes through QC staff so fast. At one time the "blue screen of death" really did mean "death."

If you get the time, check it out:

  • I have had a topic resurrected from the dead!!!

I am now a member of that elite group of "dead topics revived!"

Noticed the email alert that a reply had been posted, glanced and realized it was a 3 year old topic to which someone replied "thanks as it worked like a charm."
