I would like to know why they even bother.

How many people out there are going to think "I could do with a new kitchen, where should I look? I know - SQL Server Central - the one-stop shop for all of my kitchen needs."

And of course it will be the first place I look when I want sports supplements too - it caters for everybody.

Look on the bright side - nice new cupboards to store all those big containers of whey powder.

Wait. Are you saying that the kitchen isn't where database servers are supposed to live?

Gosh darnit! Now I have to redesign my home office. Where do I put it? The bathroom?

Oh, so much of my code could end up in the bathroom. One quick flush....

Guys just a quick question for those bloggers out there, do you have a section on your website about copyright that protects your writing?

Copyright protection is pretty much automatic and there is no need to actually post it. Speaking as a writer, however, many people seem to think anything on the internet is common property. So a polite blurb wouldn't hurt. I think Gail has something on her site, and a few others as well. My site is currently down, but I did have a little thing on mine.

My advice, don't make it sound desperate or like you're shouting at people.

Isn't that where you put the email server? I hear politicians do.

  • The copyright page on my blog is more so that when someone starts posting my stuff as theirs, I have something to point them to as to what I consider acceptable.

Haha. ... and set the password to "p@ssword"

"I cant stress enough the importance of switching from a sequential files mindset to set-based thinking. After you make the switch, you can spend your time tuning and optimizing your queries instead of maintaining lengthy, poor-performing code."

  • For whatever reason today, I'm feeling like I should either be stressed out, getting stressed, or I'm just over-thinking things...

    Or all of the above...

I almost want to write up a short "Stairway to stress" series...

Step 1: Have a SQL version migration going on, while simultaneously having a weeks mandatory "training," followed by a couple short (2-3 day) vacations (planned prior to the migration)

Step 2: Have your wife looking for a new job (still employed)

Step 3: Realize you're gradually getting more responsibilities

Step 4: Realize that despite never wanting to be "in charge," you're kind of OK with #3

    :hehe:

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

I don't have a blurb on mine. I do have something that shows original content by... and links back to my site. In light of recent plagiarism, I should add something more. Some people add a plugin to their site that will either block the copy/paste attempt. Some will add a plugin that attaches a copyright blurb to the copied content. People will attach to your RSS and copy the content that way these days. So the copyright blurb needs to attach to text that comes across in the rss.

I think some are using the RSS copy to get a quick seo bump, get a lot of hits from page views due to higher seo rankings. The kicker is they have a few ads on the site that help generate revenue. If the site is taken down after a month - they made some quick coin. If it lasts for 3 months - they made a lot more coin.

This latter is a hunch based on what I could see from the last couple of people I found to copy my content and other peoples content. They had a bunch of ads on the site. Had generated millions of views in about a month and had stolen roughly 200k articles by reposting everything from RSS and swapping the author to their name. Articles stolen included some from SSC, CNN, bloggers etc.

    I do now 😉

I realize my theme had removed the item. Added back.
