After yesterdays announcement by Dir. Comey of the FBI, I am so freakin' fed up with the political BS here in the States...
Yet I still torture myself by reading articles on this stuff...
There is NO ONE I want to vote into office this year...

So, how was everyone (in the States) July 4th holiday?
We went camping up by Traverse City, went into TC for the Cherry Festival, had some fun.

Comey is probably the only person with any integrity left in DC.
The weekend? Started off good with a golf outing Friday. Went downhill from there. My Fiance wrecked her car. Whiplash. The weather got cold. The fourth was an all-day rain. Still got to see some good fireworks though!
And, the entire weekend was filled with system errors from dumb stuff that was deployed to production Friday night.

I tubed down the Ichetucknee River on Sunday then spent Monday reading and relaxing.
This after one of my neighbors set off a plethora of fireworks after midnight on Sunday night (early early Monday morning, waking me up).
And now I am having a brain-drain week. I've spent a week cleaning up after month end, plus all this weird stuff coming up with our new servers and suddenly I can't remember a DAMN THING about SQL Server.

Short circuit from too many hours sprinting from one problem to the next. Simple things I am forgetting!

Fourth was quiet. Cut grass, a little volleyball with the family, cooked dinner, watched a few fireworks from the side of the road.
July 6, 2016 at 2:58 pm
My fourth was busy. There was the Fun Badge Tour (dancing at various tourist attractions: the Gay Village, The Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto City Hall, Younge-Dundas Square, and Sugar Beach), lunch, dancing, banquet (where I received a medallion for attending 20 (non-consecutive) gay square dance conventions), nap (the FBT started at 7:15 AM), more dancing, and board gaming.
The rest of the weekend was not quite that busy, but still packed.

Weekend again! 😀 Hope to clean the motorcycle. Boy did I ever let that get behind.
As to the fourth, watch some so/so fireworks on Sunday, and was lazy most of the weekend.

Boy what a weekend...
Friday evening we had a storm blow through, my birdfeeders in the back yard were just about horizontal from the wind (they were empty at the time.)
Then the power went out. I really, really need to get a decent UPS for my server rack, so they can properly shut down when the power goes out...
Then the sump pit alarm went off, letting us know the sump pump wasn't working (duh, the power's out,) and the pit had reached a critical level (about 8" below the lip.) Thankfully it had already stopped raining, and the sump pit only went up another inch or so.
Saturday, power was still out, and electric company was estimating a Sunday evening repair time, so went out and bought a generator to run the fridge and the sump pump. Needed more gas for it and oil, so the wife went out to get that (and our dogs meds.) Ran the generator for a short bit to lower the level in the sump pit.
Saturday afternoon one of our neighbors who works for the power company repaired the lines and got the power back on to the neighborhood (YAY neighbor!)
So the wife and I went out and saw "The Secret Life of Pets." (Fun movie, I recommend it)
Sunday was much better, went to see Tarzan (also a good movie, not a fast-paced one.) Here's hoping the rest of this week will be soothing and calm and relaxing...

It's nice that you have a neighbor who works for DTE. We had the same storms blow through, but it sounds like you got hit a lot harder than we did. Glad everything's okay and back to normal. I guess they had a tornado and golf ball-sized hail up in Arenac county. My in-laws have hail damage to their car and house - and they have it up for sale. :w00t: At least the tornado missed them.
If you want to go whole-hog, they have whole-house generators that get hooked up to your natural gas and an automatic transfer switch that'll just flip over when they sense the primary power source is lost. From what I hear, they're nice but also expensive.

Yeah, we've looked at a whole-house generator, right now it's just not in the budget. Considering we'd only want to keep the fridge and sump running, it would be something of overkill as well, although it would have the benefit of running even if we weren't home...
As for the storm, you would almost think we had a tornado (or the beginnings of one) from the way the wind was swirling around...

I just bought a brand new F-150 last week and I'm so pumped. Can't wait to get my hands on it (still waiting on delivery). Been wanting a pickup for a while now but the time was right and I got a sweet deal I couldn't say no to. Needed one to pull a trailer (currently shopping for) but it will come in handy for so many other things. No more attaching that archaic PITA bike rack to the back of my car to cart bikes around anymore. 😀
Of course that was the easy part...buying a trailer is a little overwhelming. So many brands, sizes, floorplans, options etc...

I have a F-150 (bought used) but it has a leaky roof. Web says this is a problem. I think mine might be the light. Let us know how the aluminum works out.

So, how was everyone (in the States) July 4th holiday? We went camping up by Traverse City, went into TC for the Cherry Festival, had some fun.
Spent the week in Grayling on Lake Margrethe (wife's family has a cottage on the lake). Typically have 12-14 people there for 4th of July week, had just 10 this time. We had a lot of time in the lake swimming, boating, tubing, water skiing, fishing. Wife and I had a 1 night get-away to the Leelanau Peninsula for wine tasting (and buying), came back with 3 cases of wine. We drove through Traverse City and the Cherry Festival, I thought I saw you there... lol. While on the peninsula we had a beer at Hop Lot[/url] which is a cool brew pub. They grow their own hops on the premises. Spent the night in Northport and went back to the cottage the next morning. Also went golfing a couple times - Fox Run and Grayling Country Club. Good times.
And then I returned to work today... 344 unread messages in my InBox and over 1,400 unread messages in folders (Outlook rule to send Idera alerts to specific folders).

Yeah, I hear the jury's still out on the aluminum body. I mean the benefits are clear, lighter body and no rust but on the flip side it can be more expensive to fix. Sure, Chevy has a commercial that shows a tool chest puncturing the bed which gave me a good laugh. I'm sure it could happen under the perfect condition but all that aside most folks will have a bed liner...I know I will. I was torn between the F-150 and the Ram 1500. I liked both of them but in the end Ram couldn't match Ford's offer. More specifically I got the F-150 SuperCab XLT V8 4x4 (that's a mouthful lol). The engine was another thing I was unsure about, I've heard good things about the Turbo V6 EcoBoost which actually has a higher towing capacity but will it be durable? The V8 was cheaper and gas mileage difference was negligible so I figured I'd stick with a tried and true engine.

There's an easy way to figure that out...
Go outside and take an axe to the power lines to your house, you'll figure out the generator right-quick.
