    Anyone coming to InsideSQL tomorrow?

    There are some amazing dev sessions and I really wanted to go, but it would have meant buying the time off, and being so close to Bits, that's a lot of money on conferences in a two-month period. There isn't a conference culture here. Yet.

    I am touring user groups in Ohio this week. Cleveland today. Toledo tomorrow. Columbus on Wednesday and finally Cincinnati on Thursday. If anyone is in the area...

    I've got my name down so I should be there. The pre-holiday shopping trip will have to wait until the week after (Which also coincides with payday but Mrs B doesn't need to know that πŸ™‚ )


    On two occasions I have been asked, "Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?" ... I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

    I hope to be there, and am registered for it. But my wife is to have a couple of cataract operations and a couple of more serious investigative operations some time this summer, and if the health system assigns the SQL Saturday date as the date for one of them I'll miss the SQL Saturday because I'll be at the hospital, not in Manchester.

    I am seriously considering removing my LinkedIn profile all of a sudden. I did not join to be marketed to. According to this article:

    Let's face it, so many LinkedIn users tend to inundate all of their contacts with Facebook-type drivel, quizzes, life-enhancing documents and suchlike on a regular basis anyway, so will Microsoft's sales bumph really add much to it?

    It really has just become a huge data mining operation for recruiters anyway. The only real difference I see is that MS will start pushing more and more. Such a cool idea for a community that just totally failed. Yet another example of a great idea that fell short as soon as people got involved. πŸ˜‰
