ON the SQL Saturday topic, the rumor is that a Detroit one will hopefully be scheduled for February 2017. I hope you can make it.

And further on the SQLSaturday topic, who's joining me in Iceland next month?

Gosh that sounds awesome. We are going on a family driving vacation around the East coast for a week. Not quite the same but should be lots of fun.

Where on the East coast? I'm on the northeast coast (NH) and if you are going to be close it would be cool to meet up.

My nephew is graduating high school so we are starting in Rochester. From there we are going to Fort Ticonderoga, Sturbridge Village, Boston. Depending on time (and family energy) we may try to take a day and drive up to Maine. I can let you know as the time gets a little closer what our final plans are. Would be great to meet up if only for a bite to eat or a quick beer.

Been a bit quiet here over the weekend - was there an outage, or did everyone else suddenly have an attack of Real Life?

I cut up a pretty good-sized tree on Saturday and then hauled it to the neighbor's house. I'm still paying a heavy price for it. Once or twice a year, I guess I have to do something to remind myself that I'm not as young as I used to me.

I was planning to go, but had to cancel unfortunately. Same for France and Germany. Too many conferences in too little time turned out to be incompatible with real life.

I did go to Portugal (Tuga-IT) last weekend, and I will still go to Inside-SQL (London, , and then I'll take a break until at least September.

Soccer tournament this weekend so I coached 5 games plus went to the Sporting KC game Saturday night. And of course both boys had baseball practice on Sunday after the last of the tournament games. Feels kind of good to get back to work this morning so I can relax a little bit. 😀

I saw that there was a SQLSaturday going on - mind you, the way things are, it feels as though it's rare for there not to be an event running somewhere...

    I hope it went well!

We're supporting members of Sturbridge Village and my daughter volunteered there, in full garb, for two years. To get the most out of the visit, make sure you talk to the people there. They have tons and tons of information about the village itself and the time period. Most of the love to share. My favorite installation is the cooper, but they're very seldom working. Make sure you see the sawmill in action. I love that.

That looks pretty cool. We have something similar here in metro Detroit called The Henry Ford and Greenfield Village. The village is an outdoor environment and is all about 1830s to 1870s living, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and similar topics. The Henry Ford is a museum about the history of the automotive industry. We've been members for years. I've always been partial to the village.
