Found this on my Facebook newsfeed: https://www.packtpub.com/packt/offers/data-week-2016.

Oooh. Am very tempted to grab both the R and the Data bundles.

The free book yesterday (Machine Learning with R) was one of the first ML books I bought, very good.

Very cool. Python was today's free one, but grabbing the R bundle to keep around.

Am I missing something here? Why is there a MySQL article as the headliner on a SQL Server website? Not attacking, just curious.

Thought it was interesting. We have plenty of people using MySQL, Oracle, etc. here. Decided to just slip it in.

    Is R a language?

Yes. Geared towards data analysis. 2016 SQL Server can use it.

YIKES. Yet another skill I have to learn to stay relevant... THERE ARE SO MANY!

Good thing my campus has a lagoon I can go jump in. Maybe the gator will do me a favor and release me from my misery. @=)

Nah, got a less painful way, but you'll have to wait about 9 months...

Visit this quaint little town, put on your favorite swimsuit and start walking north until you find open water to jump in...

I've heard it's either just like going to sleep, or the cold hits you so hard you have a fatal heart attack...

Ok, that's a little morbid but it made it made my morning. :hehe:

There's a quote in a book I've got, on Great Lakes Shipwrecks, that Lake Superior has two states:

    Frozen ice

    Liquid ice

Having been up there (Whitefish Point) before and felt the water (in July,) I would agree with that! A diver I knew had gone up there before diving in the summer, and even then it was drysuit diving, a wetsuit wouldn't be enough...

    Guess that's not Lago Superiori?

    : cool:

  • So...

Installing our new prod servers. Was doing swimmingly until I got to the Add Node to Cluster. Got to the account / password page of the install and forgot to enter the password on two of the lines because the account name was grayed out. Suddenly our production sql server service account is locked out.

    <headdesk>

Fortunately someone was here to unlock it toot-sweet or there would have been a lot of trouble this morning.

It is waaaaaayyyy too early in the morning to be morning today. I need more sugar. Where are the cookies and the donuts?

It sounds like you need coffee, doughnuts and an hour to recover from your traumatic experience.

Coffee puts me to sleep. That's great for recovery. Not so great for focusing on my installs. @=)

  • Tomorrow there's a SQL Saturday in Atlanta and I can't attend. I'll miss the opportunity to meet Jason B and Wayne S.

I'll probably have to wait for next year or to get a car to get some place near.

I don't know how close you are to Atlanta, but it might be worth it for you to rent a car. Then again, I really like SQL Saturdays.

    Where are you located now?

I'm in Atlanta, but I'll dedicate the day to my wife because it's her birthday.

  • Never made the event in Atlanta. I'd like to, but timing seems to fail. My middle kid graduates tomorrow, so no can do.

    Congratulations on the graduation.

ON the SQL Saturday topic, the rumor is that a Detroit one will hopefully be scheduled for February 2017. I hope you can make it.
