I am seeing a lot of training events recently and I am wondering, If level 300 is intermediate level, level 400 is advanced, then what is level 500? Superman level?

500 is 'have the debugger open before you start' type session. It's 'expert' level. Not many people teach them (they're very hard work). Bob Ward does a level 500 every PASS summit, Adam Machanic often does one, Paul Randal sometimes does one (on the DB engine side, that is)

I disagree with the debugger comment. Yes, that's what Bob Ward does. It doesn't have to be that way.

Level 500 means that the intended audience has several years of experience, and that very deep and advanced subject matter is covered. It can be done in the Bob Ward way that makes your head almost literally explode if you are not at that level yourself, but it does not need to. Both Adam and Paul are excellent at taking very advanced and deep knowledge and explaining it at a level where it is (relatively) easy to follow. In the few level-500 sessions I have in my portfolio, my main goal (**) is to make sure that people who feel comfortable in a level-300 session will also be able to follow along. "Take a hard subject, then try to explain it in a way that makes it easy".

(**) I'll let others be the judge on whether or not I succeed in that objective.

Hugo what is your definition of 400 then?

would you expect someone that has been to level 400 training to be able to grasp your 500 training?

Dang, now I want sliders for lunch...

6 sliders, order of fries, order of deep-fried mozzarella sticks, large Coke...

Not sure where in the dirty mitten you reside but have you ever had Bate's in Livonia or Hunter House in Birmingham? My preference is Bate's, they serve up some of the best sliders around - puts White Castle to shame.

Didn't know you lived in Michigan. We should get all the thread denizens from the SE Corner together for some beef'n'brew sometime.

Could always plan a meet up here: http://www.kbrewery.com/[/url]

No idea what the food is like, but my cousin loves their beers...

Oh man, Kuhnhenn beers are awesome... a friend visited their new location on Groesbeck (used to be a home and garden store) and was disappointed with the food. Regardless, I would like to try it some time soon.

Red Letter Day! Silver Spoon posted a helpful response to a question. Of course, it could just be a parrot response. But hey, it still counts!

Double red-letter day. He also actually read a response, implemented it, and responded that it worked. All in only one page of posts!

Not so fast, no indication of any comprehension yet, only a short expression of gratitude, totally different things.

    😎

Hey, we'll take what we can get! 😀

Now, if we could only stop someone from posting on old threads just to say thank you.

Old threads are much better than old QoDs, those should expire like any pint of milk.

    😎

The comments certainly start to smell like that after a few months. :hehe:

How true. He thanked someone for scripts yesterday from 2007 and 2012. They came up on the recent posts page and I couldn't believe it when I looked at it. I recommended that instead of constantly posting things without any substance, maybe he should take the time to read the article that Lynn referenced 4+ years ago. It was Jeff's tally table article. It's persistent spam - nothing more.

So, your grumpiness, where are you located?

If it's convenient for everyone, there's a PASS SPID (SQL PASS In Detroit) meeting tomorrow at 6:00 at the Microsoft Office in Southfield. http://www.eventbrite.com/e/sql-pass-in-detroit-presents-brian-davis-runbooks-and-azure-automation-tickets-25329970624?utm_campaign=reminder_attendees_48hour_email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=eb_email&utm_term=eventname

Western suburbs, Plymouth-Canton area to narrow it down.

Unfortunately the SPID meeting falls on a Thursday - I coach youth travel baseball and our games are Tuesdays and Thursdays. Is Rick Brewis (Microsoft) still involved? I knew Rick many years ago when he worked for Oracle.

I sent him a PM telling him that randomly posting comments with no substance on questions that are years old will get him heckled if not flamed around here. He said he saw my point and agreed to stop. I told him that we would welcome his input even on old qotd if what he posted was relevant and had substance related. He obviously didn't exactly follow through on his words.

Decided to go ahead and sign up for this one, even though we're not using, and won't be using (at least in the forseeable future) Azure. I expect I'll find ideas I can carry back to use on my systems anyways.

  • WHY OH WHY can we not get the spam under control on this site? Every morning it is about 2 spams for every actual thread when looking at active threads. I am afraid we are missing people who actually need help, and it is really frustrating to wade through all the rubbish.

Somehow this continues to be a problem, maybe this could be solved with some of the new Azure Machine Learning capabilities;-)
