Folks, we have someone who is deliberately trying to force a deadlock to test some stuff. Can anyone give him advice on how he might do that?

Gail and I are gamely persevering with this one. I think my pressure limit has been reached now, though.I constantly avoid that person's threads. It doesn't matter if it seems like a simple problem, the lack of common sense is great on this one.
I am right there with you Luis. I refuse to even comment on one their threads. The level of sheer incompetence, unwillingness to attempt to think or learn, and the overall level of anger that we can't read their mind is beyond reproach. There are plenty of other people out there who actually need help because they are trying to figure it out and are willing to work at it.
No way to tell for sure, but this 'poster' may be a group login. Maybe 'outsourcers' who follow a checklist and when they can't figure something out, they go to the nearest forum for help. That would explain why this "person" never seems to get more knowledgeable.

I think that idea has been tossed around previously when the person(s) in question has been discussed in this thread...
The worst of it, though, is I think at one time the poster did seem reasonably knowledgeable, although that was a few years back...

Good morning, peeps. What are we having for breakfast today?
Mine was oatmeal with purple honey (from North Carolina) and assorted fruit. But for some reason I have pancakes and waffles with real maple syrup on my mind and I can't figure out why. So I'm pre-emptively accusing someone on The Thread of having the Good Stuff for breakfast and making me hungry again.
Waffles with the real stuff was Saturday.
If you are ever coming to Minnesota in the spring, get in touch.
My cousin actually started making syrup.
You could probably take part.
Would you expect wages with custom labels?
Depends on how much work. For a couple of days, probably not as I could finagle a "writing research" expense on my taxes.
I actually have a planned book with a character that taps for syrup. But internet research only gets one so far.
So did your internet research cover dissipating the foam by stirring with a pine bough?
Work depends on the sap flow. Right conditions, if you tap a lot of trees, it can keep you hopping.
The boiling is much more laid back.
Quality control - the best job. Seems smiling kids like that job the most.
Test often is the rule.
Done this with 50 gallon cast iron kettle over open fire, and more modern guttered tray over open fire or propane burner.
Older method is more laid back, but takes longer.
The tray with open fire takes a bit more finesse to keep the temp right.
Depending on the weather, it can be somewhat boom or bust.
So goes the work.
It's been a while since I did the research, but I do remember there was stirring involved. I just don't remember why. Foam makes sense.
My favorite part of the routine: "Test often is the rule."
Because as we DBAs know, you never know if it works if you don't test it. @=)

Well, if the goal were just to force any old deadlock (and I agree that would be a tad strange :-)), I had already given code to reproduce the same deadlock pattern he was seeing (Process A's RangeS-U blocked by Process B's X, Process B's RangeI-N blocked by Process A's RangeS-U).
His goal is presumably to track down all the code needed to reproduce his exact deadlock in testing, so he can then test changes to see how well they mitigate it.
He should have enough info at this point to at least know where to start looking; if not, well, we'll keep helping 🙂

Yeah, that was an interesting comment. Luckily, I don't eat breakfast. 😛 I still wont' post...must resist the urge.
Proficient, meaning I know how to spell "data modeling tools."

When you someone points you to an excellent solution, why would you reinvent the wheel using a much more inefficient method and then try to defend it?
Because it is far more fun, challenging and pride fulfilling.:-D

You know, reading the comment from SQLBill really made me rethink my assessment. I used to think group login handed down within a DBA group. There was also the potential for TBI that could have caused such the change in attitude and knowledge of that OP. Now, I have to consider that maybe, while still being a shared login, that it is shared amongst tier 1 helpdesk sorts. Just read the script/checklist and then post in a forum.

Dang it - too late to that party.
I have 3 different routines that guarantee a deadlock. Grant gave him something works great. Plus he was able to repro his deadlock in test - which is great news.

So maybe the original person left that job and was replaced by a herd of accidental DBA lemmings with bad attitudes. That sounds about right.

Possible, but I vaguely remember helping him early in his existence, and I don't recall much learning. I know I tried to get him to be a bigger part of the group, especially when OPs posted problems where AS400's were involved as that is (was) a part of his environment. Didn't really work out well.
