Are the posted questions getting worse?

I'll shoot the concierge an e-mail tonight. At the moment, I'm just trying to get a rough idea as to the price, so I can look at budgeting for it...

Wonder if I could get the boss to pay for it?

    😉

On an unrelated note, the look of relief on the face of the guy who's in charge of acquiring the software licenses, when he finds out that we have SA and thus don't need to buy new licenses for SQL 2014 @ ~$11k/ea (2-core packs, and we'd need quite a few) is priceless...

    :hehe:

(BTW, he talked to our licensing reps to get that info, we're not interpreting MS licensing in our favor)

If you are interested in Cruise, check this out.

Fwiw - the story related about the other cruiser in that post, the trip for the Cruise was from Europe all covered by the employer.

Tons of ROI for a boss to pay for cruise.

    To paraphrase a bit:

Dr. Peter Venkman: This server is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.

DBA: What do you mean, "biblical"?

Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. DBA, real wrath of God type stuff.

    Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.

Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!

Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...

Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave!

Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

DBA: All right, all right! I get the point!

    :hehe::cool:

An interesting article to be sure. I wonder if it'll have the same level of OS support it enjoys from Windows. I used Unix years ago, but have never really used Linux before. Do you think it has the underlying core to support SQL Server?

It might have been. From a technical perspective, there would be a lot of hurdles to overcome with the product being so integrated with the OS. The alternative would be to offer a stripped-down version of SQL Server that would give the Linux people something complain about.

Heh - I had the word "else" in there and took it out so I reduced the risk of riot. But yes, then do.

There will be no complaining from the Linux folks. They will just tell us how MySQL is a far superior database than anything else in the world. And it's free!!!!

  • Why have I waited so long to start using snippets? :pinch:

It was probably the part that said 'Create an XML...' and I stopped there and said screw that. In reality it wasn't too bad.

  • Gah...

I forgot how long it can take to update a VM, especially when you're being stingy (it's only going to be hosting the controller software for my new in-home wifi AP) and only give it 2GB of RAM and a single vCPU...

Then load a full GUI Server 2012 on it...

First thing I do, double or quadruple the vCPUs and RAM until it's done being updated...

Has something gone wrong with sending notifications over the last day or two? A lot of new posts on the thread, but I haven't had a single notification for it (or for anything else at SQL Server Central, and there have been messages in at least a few other threads I'm subscribed to).

I wonder if someone could program an RSS feed to this URL: http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/TopicSubscriptions1.aspx

Quite interesting. Some of it extremely expressive. Certainly backs up what Gartner recently said about MS SQL Server.

(But no-one told me when I will be able to buy a developer edition licence.)
