Are the posted questions getting worse?

    Very sad.

  • So a question to everyone: Would you prefer if someone posts a quick "reported as spam" reply to the spam topics after they report them, or nothing? I just reported one, and didn't put in a reply as I didn't want it showing up (again) in unread posts. Now, the topic in question, admittedly, has a fairly obvious spam title, but at least I find it annoying when they keep showing up as unread because someone reported it, then replied to it...

You know, that's a good question. I find it uber-annoying, especially on the weekends when the entire first page consists of nothing but spam except for a single question. The real questions start to slowly take over and then someone posts a reply saying they've reported spam to every single one of them and the entire first page is consumed by the same spam again. It's made me not even want to get on over the weekend, which maybe I shouldn't, but that's a different discussion.

So much spam started flowing into the site a few months ago that I mentally just flung up my arms and stopped bothering to report it. Spam won.

I don't know if anyone is aware of this but I noticed Dwain Camps hadn't posted anything in awhile so I checked his blog (dwaincsql.com), simple-talk, twitter, linkedin... then came across this while searching for him on Facebook.

    I'm absolutely heartbroken.

Oh heck. I knew he was unwell, we talked by email up until November or something. At that time his docs were telling him it was sciatica affecting his legs & back. I followed up with an email in December with no reply. I assumed he was so under the weather that he just didn't feel up to replying.

Stunned. He was fantastic to work with, intelligent, curious, inventive and upbeat. I've lost a friend, and the community has lost a unique member.

    Rest in peace geezer.

I would add great mentor to the community.

He helped a lot of people.

And I will always remember the fish - catching something like that is on my bucket list.

Hey, who shut down the water cooler? I do not post often here, but I read it every day. Usually there is a lot going on by now.

That was the day I headed from Seattle to my writer's retreat, where there's very little internet access. Sorry, I couldn't sustain watercoolerness without signal.

    My bad. @=(

I'm pretty sure that response would give Dwain a giggle. I know I just had one.

That's what I should have said.

I know it sounds silly, but would have been great to have met him in person once. Which I now can't do.

Either way. When we get these, if the spam filter hasn't caught up, we delete the thread and ban the user.

Wow... slide over, hope you made enough popcorn for two.

Yes I read that comment with some surprise

Pity I now have a 4 hour plus drive ahead of me, would like to watch that one.

Sounds as though they have made up their mind to do it, and just wants someone to say "yes that's right, go ahead and do that" :O
