Are the posted questions getting worse?

I think I know (now) which one you were talking about. I gave them my shot in the dark but I have a feeling we won't know if it is correct until next week.

You know, with the weird questions lately, I'm glad I'm going to be on vacation next week.

    What's a vacation?

It's time you get to spend with family and (hopefully) not have to work. It may or may not involve travel. Mine does...Disney in Florida. We'll be leaving this 2 F behind for a week and enjoy the 70 F.

Will only be a vacation if you total disconnect from work. No calls, no emails, no texts.

Amen. That's exactly what I'm shooting for. In fact, it's the only reason I'm still here now. 😛

I did that over the 2015 new year. The family went to Atlantis for 10 days. I powered off my phone when I boarded the plane in Atlanta and never turned it back on until I got home. It was the most relaxing vacation in memory.

I have no work phone. For me it was a total separation from the entire world for 10 days. Not once did I need or want to make a call, text, watch tv. I didn't care what time anything happened or where anyone else was. I just made the full transition to "island time" instantly and wish I could do something like that once a year. It was somewhat easy though since there were a lot of us and we were all at the same resort.

I would love to go to Atlantis, in the Bahamas not Dubai. Sorry, but if I am going to be on a plane for 16 hours it better be for business.

  • We will be transitioning to "mountain time". Wake up, breakfast, try to get first chair, snowboard/ski until hungry, grab a quick bite, snowboard/ski until the lifts close, some apres ski possibly mixed in with dinner, a few adult beverages, back to the condo for sleep and do it all over again. Pure mountain bliss.

I always forget there is an Atlantis in Dubai too. 😀 The rum is certainly better in the Bahamas (although that doesn't mean much to you since you don't imbibe).

Many years ago while still in the Air Force and stationed at Cheyenne Mountain Complex I did something like that. My parents had two time share condos in Vail and I was going to spend two weeks up there skiing. Sorry to say I only lasted a week. After seven days I was too sore and tired to go another week.

I'd consider it while there. I do occasionally drink, just not very often or very much.

Ahhh, I may do that this weekend, or Monday. 😉

  • I've started to get in the habit of shutting off email and computer time on the weekends, just to get away from work, but also let them know I'm not always on. Same for vacations, I may look at email if it's more than 3-4 days, but I don't respond.

It's hard for them and me, but I have found most managers deal with it, even if they don't like it.

My days are going to involve getting up, checking the savanna for animals, going to a theme park, making it to my restaurant reservations, seeing cool things with my wife and daughter, enjoying fireworks at night and trying to get "it's a small world" out of my head. Oh yeah, and it's going to be much warmer than it is in Michigan. It'll be a nice break from the weather.

Touche, sir. I'll have to append my previous post that it'll be a nice break from weather and work. 😛 I'll have a laptop with me, but it'll be in the hotel room.
