Are the posted questions getting worse?

Heading to Seattle soon and wondering if MS gives campus tours or not. Because... why not?

    Anyone know if they do?

Ack what a rough start to the week. My dog went for "last outs" about midnight last night and found a skunk. This is the second time in about 3-4 months. Was up for another hour or so cleaning him and then taking a shower. Working from home today since I smell even worse than normal.

Then my dad got news that the tumor in his bladder is very aggressive cancer. They are going to take his bladder and create a new one from part of his intestines. Sounds pretty crazy to me but they say he has a very good chance at a full recovery.

Hoping this week turns out sometime soon.

Best wishes for your dad and his soon-to-be-improved health, Sean.

Yes that is a rough start to the week. But I should thank you for putting some perspective on my complaints.

Yuck - hope all goes well with your dad.

And hey, if it takes running into a skunk to work from home, may your dog find many more skunks.

Best wishes to your Dad coming through this.

As for the skunk, could be worse, could've been a porcupine. Saw a couple dogs on a show last night that found a porcupine and tried to get a bite out of it (hunting dogs,) and got mouthfuls of quills instead. Couldn't eat, couldn't drink, had to go to the vet to have the quills pulled out (under sedation {the dogs, not the vet}) At least skunk, you can toss the dog in the tub (and spend the next couple hours scrubbing away,) porcupine you'd probably have had to take the pooch to the vet...

How very true. My problems don't even seem slightly significant any more.

All the best to your father, Sean. I hope he recovers fully.

Thanks all. To be honest I am pretty upbeat about the whole situation. The surgery he has to have is apparently somewhat rare but has been around for a long time. The doctor said there is no sign of anything outside of his bladder he is very optimistic that this surgery will be the end of it.

On another topic, you passed through my head this weekend Ed. We have a neighborhood pub crawl a couple times a year. We hosted last time so were not on the list of houses until one of our neighbors had a death in the family and couldn't make it so we stepped in last minute as a host house. Our local meat market is the old style meat market where they butcher everything there and most cuts of meat are cut right in front of you. They all know me there pretty well because I will often take some random cuts and lesser known pieces with glee. A couple of the butchers there will sometimes tell me right when I walk in they have something for me.

At any rate...they cure their own bacon and took some of that and ground it into their ground chuck making bacon burger. Which made an unbelievably good burger. I took that and mixed it with their pork sausage and rolled it into little meatballs. Then stuffed them with mozzarella, gave them a good rubbing and tossed them on the smoker with nothing but grapevine. Wowza!!!

Since I know you and I have the same smoker, have you done anything to protect it from the weather? I never found a decent cover for it and it has some issues. The ring at the bottom rusted through so bad that most of it fell out through the bottom. I think I can get a cast iron skillet and cut out the bottom to make a ring to hold the chip tray but it is only a matter of time until it collapses.

Gosh, hope it works out ok for your dad Sean. A very good friend of mine went through a similar op around four years ago - similar in that the plumbing and method was parallel to what you've described. It was a resounding success with only one or two limitations on his diet.

I'm sure you don't smell as bad as Smelly Martin I worked with up until a year ago. He'd come into work on Monday a little whiffy. By Wednesday you could tell when he'd been in the kitchen, five minutes after he'd left. By Friday you could tell if he'd been in the open-plan office at some point. Secret Santa always gave him soap and deodorant but he failed to take the hint: HR had a quiet word and he ignored it.

+1 for hoping for success. Sounds like quite a procedure, though - kudos to whoever came up with the idea in the first place!

Oh, man, that gives me flashbacks to one of my minions many years ago. HR had words, the Head of Ops-type had words, I had words. It didn't go well. I suspect the only reason I hadn't really noticed was that I was sitting right underneath one of the server room's AC unit blasting right at my face. Fun times. Yes, my office was the server room. :-/

We currently have a rather pungent network engineer. Fortunately he's only an occasional visitor so it's not too bad a problem. Unfortunately one of those occasions is now.

My smoker has actually blown over a couple of times in the recent high winds. The cover came off and keeps coming off so I've taken the decision to leave it where it is for the moment. I don't think there's too much damage and I reckon an hour or so with some wire wool and high-temperature paint will have it good-as-new.

The butcher sounds fantastic. There's a guy like that where I live and I'm often in there with requests for weird and wonderful cuts. A couple of times I've gone in with diagrams and he's cut something special. I only discovered recently that American brisket is a slightly different cut from British brisket. That goes some way to explaining why I could never get it as juicy as it should be.
