This was Alex demonstrating DLM & CI, did an impressive job, must add that I removed the bad practice comment from the screenshot ( for fun)I am very impressed by the coverage of the products but struggling with fitting them into the hybrid legacy/ cloud scenario I'm dealing with. So far it's the best contender I've seen.

Do you happen to have a link for this presentation / video? I'd really like to see it.
No link, this was a screen sharing session.

So the other day I was paying bills, and got curious about my electric bill. It was easily 2x what it had been last year at the same time. My first thought was, they raised the rates and I didn't notice, so I looked back at previous bills. August, my bills doubled! The problem was, I couldn't pull up the detailed bills from then to see what the rate was.
Then I got thinking, something *else* had changed in August...
I'd gotten my shiny new (used) PowerEdge R900 with 4x quad core Xeons, 64GB of RAM, dual 1200w power supplies...
Hmm...
So, to test, I've shut it down for the month. Last night I fired up an app our electric company has that will show you your daily / weekly / monthly electric usage and took a look. There was a difference of 10kw/h use between the day the server was shut down, and the previous day...
Not quite enough to cover the entire increase I think, but enough to put a dent in it (I think the new NAS I put in is probably the other chunk, and I can't shut the NAS down.)
Sigh, so my fun toy is now a "gotta go plug it in before I can use it for stuff, and unplug it when I'm done" toy. I don't want to leave it plugged in when it's off, as the power supplies will still draw some power (and I'm too lazy right now to figure out how to get the DRAC card in it to handle powering on / off remotely)
Anyone want a nice rack-mount server?

Not sure where you live, but did your AC usage go up in the summer and heat usage go down in the colder months? 😀
Also, you might be able to save some electricity if you make sure the server isn't in high-performance mode. For a home server you probably don't need high-performance more.

Well, my gas bill (natural gas furnace) hasn't been too bad these last couple months...
:hehe:
But you know, I might've had the brute in HP mode, I'll have to check this weekend...
Or I can order one of these from the UK[/url] to replace the brute, I'll get nearly the same performance (although a few less CPU cores)

Looks like a bass to me. Notice the right hand is playing with the fingers. Also when you zoom in you can see the tuning knobs and it looks like there is only 4. 🙂

No that's Fender Milestone Bass.
I tried to play guitar but I couldn't get my left hand to make the right shapes for the cords.

Cool! Luckily I started playing young enough to get over that hurdle.

You know, Jason, I have to admit that back when you were talking about all the toys you were going to get (storage, big servers, etc.) I was wondering what it would do to your electric bill. While a rise is expected, I didn't expect that it would double. When summer comes and your AC kicks in, your electric bill is going to go through the roof.
That DTE app is supposed to be pretty nifty. I haven't downloaded it or anything, so my knowledge is all second-hand. What do you think of it?

Yeah, I didn't think it would double either...
Still not 100% convinced it's just the server though.
The DTE app isn't too bad, when you look at a single day you can pull up how much was used on an hour-by-hour basis, or just look at the graph (which is a circle with the use bars going out from the middle, which I think actually makes it somewhat easier to read quickly) Being from DTE, the only "ads" you get (and then only if you click on certain items that are "optional" like the "Energy Bridge" in tools) are for additional DTE services (I've not gone plowing through a lot of the options, yet.) For what I paid for the app (free, BTW)? Worth it.

Thanks for the info on the app. I've heard all the advertising, but am forced to wonder what else they have in there.

DRACs are great when you have to power cycle remote servers, especially in hostile country.
