Are the posted questions getting worse?

Sitting in a meeting at Redgate talking about plans for SQL Server Central. THE THREAD has come up as a topic. We are currently a 65mb thread. It evidently looks like "an exponentially growing log file."

    All I can say is...

    WELL DONE!

Keep it up. Good job everyone.

We have loads to do still then. Goal is 65GB.

    And you can BELIEVE THAT!

Tell me The Thread's award is not that it's going to be killed off. I've come to enjoy it. It's a lot like a pressure release valve that releases pressure slowly to prevent explosions. I know I don't want to explode. 😉

Well, if it is killed off there are multiple resolutions for that:

    a. It will just come back next season (yes the plot thickens)

    b. It is already sentient and has made backups of itself

    c. It has spawned children threads (that will become sentient upon the death of the thread)

    d. Nothing on the internet ever really goes away does it?

At 1.273 Kb a post that is not very efficient, you should hire a proper performance and optimization consultants:-D

In the case of B, I wonder if The Thread can do it's own restore of itself. In option C, do you think they've thought ahead and have backed up the parent so they can do a restore if the parent is killed?

BTW, those are really good. 😛

65 milli-bits is actually extremely small and sits somewhere in the realms of quantum storage.

It would be very interesting to know the compression algorithm used to achieve that size. No wonder there are occasional slowness problems.

This is, potentially, the longest thread on the Internet. I'm not sure I've seen anything continue this long, for this length. We were, by far, the largest user of this forum software, and larger than any other .NET forums I've seen.

And yet, the site still works. Sure, it has the quote bug and a glitch or slowdown from time to time, but just look at it. I'd say it's a job well done.

Look at all the cool things to come out of The Thread. There's the Pork Chop Launcher (plus variants), DBCC TIMEWARP and the Hippo Guarding the Tent in the Dessert.

Cool things? I wonder how many other threads keep referring to crystal balls and silver spoons? 😎

I missed if anyone ever found the crystal ball?

It's in a quantum state. At best, sufficient need can collapse its waveform temporarily and cause a sudden burst of clarity, but it will always go back to unknown location, unknown momentum after a short time.
