  • As the Testing forum doesn't appear to be the busiest area of this site - if anybody here has played with SQL Test I'd appreciate them taking a quick look at http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1753314-2838-1.aspx

Um, wow. I didn't even know (or perhaps just didn't remember) that SQL Test was a thing.

Oh, it's a 'thing' alright. I'm reserving judgement on what type of 'thing' until I've played with it a bit more. At my new job and looking at implementing CI to match the Developer's processes.

Quite interesting in it's own, strange way.

Hey, at least they've got processes. As long as their process isn't defined as "shoot from the hip" then I'd say it's probably better than nothing. πŸ˜‰

  • And the joyous news of the day is no moving the corporate monitoring dbs over to our new servers because we own the servers so are expected to do our own monitoring.

Given how much space those databases take up, this is incredibly good news.

  • So I just took a phone call and the chap on the other end says I am "average" at best and wont hit the ground running..... uhmmm how can they decipher that from a 3 page CV? At least give me reasons I said, to which he replied.... with nothing! <confused face>

If the chap on the other end of the phone was one of the people you may have ended up working with then he's passed an "Idiot Test" thereby defining himself as an idiot. If on the other hand you were talking to an agent - well they're almost all idiots. Find another agent, one that works.

You hit the nail on the head there Chris. ( With the latter part)... I think I left it on professional terms...

Ah yes the ongoing battle with agencies...

Some of the silly conversations I've had with them in the past! Between us we could write a book on them!

    Rodders...

Edit: added "a book" so it makes sense!

So few of them take an interest beyond numbers and commission. One who stands head and shoulders above the rest in this respect is Dom (Dominic Adamczyk) at Lorien who emails out a weekly newsletter similar to Database Weekly, called Something SQL Server. I'd guess his hit rate (hires per cv sent) is miles above average.

In the Netherlands there is a really good BI recruiter as well (Monkey Recruitment I think). Also has a newsletter on SQL Server BI / Power BI stuff, he comes to SQL Server events, hands out prizes for the best CV and everything. Really nice guy.

  • About 4 months ago, I got an SMS from a recruiter which said (paraphrased)

"I saw your profile on LinkedIn. One of my clents(sic) is looking for Developers with C# skills. Interested?"

Last week I got another SMS from the same person

"I noticed you on LinkedIn. I have a position for a Team Lead/Project manager and another for a senior C# developer. Call me for details."

Either I'm well overdue for another pruning exercise on the LinkedIn skill list, or...
