I did the dumbest thing over this past weekend...

As I had a 4 day weekend (woohoo!) I didn't get to sleep anywhere close to my usual time, instead I was staying up until 2-3am.

Well, I'm paying for it today. I'm half-ready to put my head down on my desk and nap, and da*m the consequences...

I know what you mean. My last day of work before today was December 23rd. And I routinely didn't make it to bed until 2-3am. Gosh I haven't done that in a LONG time.

I did the same thing. This morning sure did come early, didn't it? :w00t:

Was headed towards bed last night...err this morning about 1 and our youngest came out of his room because he just projectile vomited everywhere. Didn't get to bed until after 2 again.

Ah, the forgotten () joys of having young kids.

Life is more restful now - my kids have to sort it out when the grandkids indulge in projectile vomiting at 1 am, it's long time past the bairns' bedtimes then so they won't be at my place :-).

I stayed up way longer than normal during the holiday break, but I forced myself to get in the bed (and sleep) on my 'normal' time so I'd be back on my schedule.

My wife and I did a big move just before Christmas - went from hot Arizona (Chandler - SE of Phoenix) to cold Arizona (Dewey - outside Prescott). A 2-hour drive difference and 20 degree temperature change. So we've spent the holiday break unpacking boxes and trying to get things set up and arranged how we want them. Thank goodness for being able to work from home.

My daughter is in Prescott, AZ. She attends ERAU.

Very nice. How is she enjoying Prescott? We love the area. Five lakes to kayak on and hike around. Lots of beautiful views and hiking areas. I'm not enjoying the cold weather....but at least snow is very rare and when it does appear it doesn't stay long.

I have a co-worker who just left Florida and is driving home to Michigan. He's going from 80 F to 24 F and snow in one day. I told him to prepare for a shock. Hopefully it doesn't send him into shock.

Brrrrrr, that is quite a change. After living in Chandler, AZ for 8 years, I'm really not used to (nor liking) the cold weather anymore and 60 degrees is cold for me. But I only have to deal with the winter, then the weather gets nice again and people are golfing. Once my unpacking is done, I hope to be on the golf course.

Yeah I guess I got my restful (ish) days when I was younger and had no children. Our youngest is 7 so the real joys of young children are long behind us too but we still have issues from time to time.

She's enjoyed it. The climate is similar to Colorado Springs, CO. I should have another daughter coming to the area in the fall, and then one there now will be moving to the East Coast.

If I could find a position working from home I'd consider moving there.

  • Happy New Year

I'm back, after not really doing anything on the site except clean spam since Dec 24.

Hope everyone is well and had a great holiday season.

And it was cold on my New Year. Single digits, sometimes signed, in Steamboat Springs last week for skiing. We returned home to 28F and it was warm.

Mine is 14 now, but I remember those days well. I got used to running on minimal sleep and nothing was gross or disgusting any more after that. I guess my threshold was raised quite a bit. Nonetheless, I must admit that I miss that time in some ways.

  • Sorry to bring tech to the thread, but managed to get TDE and AG to wok together on a three node test environment. A couple of hiccups along the way, so now to undo, and try again without the hiccups. Then tomorrow go for QA and pre-prod, and then maybe production for an actual go live. Scary what some places let me do :w00t:

Having a nice cup of tea to celebrate the test one working, oh how very British of me...

Glad to hear she's enjoying the climate and scenery. That's why we moved up here. Luckily the company I work for allows part time work from home...so my wife and I have a condo near Phoenix so I can stay there a couple days each week when I need to go into the office.

If I hear of any openings anywhere that allow full work from home, I'll pass them your way.

I'll be in AZ for a week starting next week with the family. We're looking to move to the Phoenix area (Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler). I love Chicago but have had enough winter and Midwest scenery to last a lifetime.

  • We have a new technical term to promulgate through the interwebs!!! It is "pogical".

My boss came up with it retroactively when he told me via IM that he was "validating pogical diagrams for architecture". Nevermind that he meant to type "logical". Pogical is now an official term around here that means partly physical and partly logical. @=)

Actually, my employer is starting to encourage the IT staff to work more from home. There will still be in-office meetings and touchpoints, but that's the direction we're heading.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
