So on my way in to work this morning, the news station I listen to has a brief story about a local Toyota dealer running a "promotion." On hearing the deal, I start thinking, maybe it's time to get a Tacoma pickup truck so the wife and I finally can haul something larger than a breadbox. Then I hear a bit more of the details, namely the "out" for the dealer on the promo...
What's the promo?
Easy. If the U of M Wolverines shutout the Ohio State Buckeyes in the football game on Saturday, the dealer will refund the purchase price of the vehicle.
Of course, reading another story on this, eagle-eyed rules lawyer me noticed some wording:
At Victory Toyota, from now until the end of the month, anyone who buys a vehicle will be paid back the cost of the car or truck, if U of M is able to shut out OSU.
(Emphasis mine)
Maybe after work tonight I'll see if that wording is on the dealers site as well, that way I can wait until *after* the game to decide if it's time to get a pickup truck or not...
:hehe::-D
Now I do not pay too much attention to sports. However I learned young that in the UM/OSU match-up anything can happen. (note here its OSU/team up north) 🙂
I do not see a shut out, but the way OSU is playing this year I see UM winning.
Best time to Christmas shop is during the game, only problem is finding a salesperson to help you.

Yeah, not a college sports fan here, and as soon as I heard it required a shutout, I figured that wasn't going to happen...
Now, I am looking forward to the Red Wings game on Friday night, mostly because the wife and I have rwo 1 tickets on the home end of the ice...

So I did a "small" thing (that took more time than effort) for an internal customer this morning.
About 5 minutes ago received an email with "THANK YOU" in 40 pt font bold.
Apparently it was a larger thing than I realized, but regardless, it's nice to have someone notice the effort for a good thing instead of getting slammed because of system problems.

Maybe it's the Thanksgiving season. 😀
Anyway, it feels great to get good feedback.

Something I've always tried to remember when working on problems for people...
What we may see as a "small" or "easy" thing, to them it may be a nearly insurmountable problem.
Going back to my previous job, I couldn't tell you how many times the customer on the other end of the phone would make a comment like "you must think I'm so dumb for not being able to figure this out," to which my reply was always "no, you just don't do this every day like I do. What you do on a daily basis, I couldn't even begin to do."
That being said, yeah, it's always nice to get a thank you from someone you've helped.

Never time to do it right, but always time to try and fix it. Oh, don't forget, we don't have the resources to bring in an experienced individual to help fix a mess so we'll just try to get free help online. Do that, response time online could be days.

Help, I can't read and don't know how to attach a file... Sorry, some people are finding it easier to push my buttons today.

I can sympathize. I had to test the limits of my restraint on a different thread from that individual the other day, after they were given explicit instructions on how to change something, and several times after not making those changes responded with "Thanks, so how to fix it?" or "Still doesn't work."
Oh well, there are worse things in the world 🙂

Scott,
Please see attach Excel file.
Unfortunately I had a hard time interpreting what you were telling me to do.
Thank you for all of your you help.

I have no idea what you are talking about, so please write all the code I need to run against my database. I will simply run it based on your knowledge and interpretation of the data provided when I ran your script.

Spam will keep on being out of control as long as spammers can post multiple spam post without being blocked.
Same person has been doing this same thing today as he was doing yesterday.
I'm not going to bother reporting any more spam messages.

Yeah it is getting harder and harder to week through all the spam and find the people actually needing help. It is a shame that something can't be done about it. I really hope that Redgate steps up to the plate soon to find a solution. There are a lot of ways to deal with this. Hopefully they find one that works, or fix whatever the bug is in the forums code soon.

The spam problem is tough. Believe me, no matter what we do, people will find ways around it. Much of the spam isn't a user clicking and posting like you. There are automated scripts that post, and avoid these forms. The least performance impact-ive way is to have a process that removes posts after they appear. Often posts are removed by the time you've reported a few.
I am trying to get other changes, but I don't have the ability to force this.

One spammer posted at least 4 reddit posts today. I just don't understand why his account was not blocked at least after his second post.
FYI, his account was still active 60 seconds ago.
