Hopefully next month there'll be a butty with homemade bacon, homemade sausage and eggs from the allotment on homemade bread. I can taste it already...So, um, whereabouts in the UK do you live? Just curious.... π
Just reporting that the homemade pork products and bread were a resounding success. I had to forego the egg because it wouldn't fit.

I think we always have silver spoons on hand. There's not usually too much of a surplus because they tend to get used quickly. π

Good to hear that you're treating this with the contempt it deserves. The potential risks of acrylamide, benzo(a)pyrenes etc were well known back in to 70's when I was a student. I can't believe it's taken this long to generate some media-friendly stats...

I hear about that and nearly drove off the road. I get it that processed foods aren't good for you, but they made a leap and said that red meat may be bad, but the evidence isn't there. I just can't believe they're saying meat is on par with smoking.

There are certain things I'm just not prepared to give up. Besides, good quality bacon and sausages won't have nitrates and preservatives in. They're largely used to stop things going a nasty grey colour and extend the preservation even more. If things are done properly (read more expensively) they're not needed.
I've seen an interesting article about the risks of red meat and I'll try to dig it out. The upshot was that although the correlation between red meat and cancer may be as strong as that between smoking and cancer, the actual risk of getting cancer is orders of magnitude smaller.

Lovely.
We have the URLDefense ProofPoint software to prevent bad URL links. But when the site goes down, so does our ability to navigate to the sites in the emails. Every time I get a notification email, I now have to open up a web browser and manually navigate to the forums and then each thread, hoping I'm looking at the correct forum group to find the thread I was subscribed to.
GRRR.
EDIT: Nobody gets to post to this site until the stupid 3P software gets itself fixed. Okay? π
