    Dang...

Now I'm going to have to leave it to the wife which one we go to Sunday (Saturday is booked.)

Of course, the Ren Fest last weekend is next weekend, the Gun (Fun!) show is this weekend only. So maybe some gentle nudging is in order...

If it were me, I'd go to the gun show. It doesn't come to Novi all that often and it's usually a big one, so it's worth the trip. I think that one has about 900 tables, which is bigger than just about any other one around. You do have one more weekend for Ren Fest.

Thank you, Jason, for making me aware of the gun show in Novi. My wife is going up north for a women's retreat, so it's just my daughter and I think weekend. We had already planned a trip to the range, which is just north of Novi, so it's only logical that we go to the show. Hmmm...me at a gun show and no wife to tell me "no" to anything. This could turn into a very fun and expensive weekend. :-D:-D:-D

Ooohhh! Now I need to figure out a way to keep the wife from going!

Maybe finally get the other range-queen gun I've been wanting...

But, yeah, we've decided to do the gun show Sunday, Ren Fest next weekend.

Just remember that if you buy a new toy, you have to feed it. Some are hungrier than others. πŸ˜‰

My current hungry and expensive range-queen: Magnum Research Desert Eagle

Fun to take to the range, but at ~$2/rd, kind of pricey if you want to go often...

I don't even need to click the link to know exactly what it is. Do you have the .44 or .50?

Also, have you ever seen someone else shoot it in the late evening or at night? It puts out an impressive fireball for muzzle flash.

Oh come now, if you're going to get a Desert Eagle, go whole hog and get the .50!

    And yes, mine's the .50...

Which is why I can only manage about 12 rds before I have to pack it up and move to something with less kick...

Cool - the .50 is a monster of a handgun, but it sure is fun. I know what you mean about it packing a wallop, though.

Had some fun the last time I took it to the range, told the RO when they asked what I was shooting that I was going from one extreme to the other...

.50AE first, then I was going to be shooting my .22LR pistol...

    :hehe:

Half the fun of one of these beasts is the looks from the people who realize what you're shooting. It's not a very common gun to actually see *on* the range, but almost every gun shop I've been in has at least one in the display case for sale...

Heh - I am an RO. The last time I was at the range, someone shot off a cannon that dwarfed anything else there. It was a .338 Lapua. Now that's an expensive toy at $6 per round. :w00t: When you can find it, it's usually at a show.

    Ouch.

Loudest thing at the range I go to the last couple times, has been a guy with an AR with a muzzle brake. HUGE fireball every time and loud as all get-out.

What I'd like to get for another range queen is something rather on the ridiculous side for a private citizen, but it's my money...

    Barret M82A1 in .50BMG...

Of course, at $10k+ for the rifle, plus $10/rd, it'd be a once or twice a year thing...

Not to mention you cannot fire it at a any range I know of in this area of the state. That is, however, the mother-of-all rifles. It's on my bucket list to shoot, just once in my lifetime.

Actually, I believe the range I go to *is* rated for .50BMG...

    πŸ™‚

Seeing as I'm thinking of going up there after work, I'll try to remember to ask them.

(Close Quarters Tactical, 23 Mile near Hayes in Shelby Township)

Okay, it's a bit of a haul for me, but it'll be good to know if I ever find anyone who actually has one. It would be worth it to fire it once. Let me know if it's allowed. I'm sure the range I belong to could handle the .50 BMG, but there's a rule specifically disallowing the round.

Personally, as I get older, I don't want a cannon. Hard on the wrists and arms.

Just mount it to a turret.

...and break your back carrying the turret:-D

    😎

That's what the deuce and a half is for. You drive the turret to where you want to shoot, climb into the back of the deuce and enjoy!

Or one person drives, while the other is in the back - shooting.

    bahahaha

I think you have to have private land for that, plus being subject to the local laws is another consideration. Then again, with Eirikur's Oerlikon, all you need is a crew to staff the ship. I don't even want to think about the 20mm rounds - you'd probably need to have them made, which is well beyond my budget.

A 20mm round packs aboud the same punch as a hand grenade, big bang but rarher expensive

    😎

    All righty then...

I got lazy, didn't get to the range yesterday, but I checked their site:

    CQT USA

Here's the important bit on the page:

All lanes are rifle rated up to .50BMG! No extra charge for rifle shooters.

Now, if only they had a "try before you buy" program for the Barrett they've got...

    :hehe:

A 25-meter indoor range? Why on earth would anyone ever want to shoot a .50 BMG on such a short range?

Umm, because it's probably one of the few (or the only) range in Michigan that you could shoot one? And you don't need to worry about the weather...

Although the "Pit" up in Lapeer might also be an option (public shooting area owned by the DNR, and no restrictions other than what time you can shoot... Got a full-auto AR? Have fun at the Pit!) it's even more of a drive...

SQL Server Days was awesome indeed.

Got to meet Aaron Bertrand for the first time. And Gianluca - the gentle giant - as well! He was kind enough to bring me a bottle of Limoncello (again, many many thanks Gianluca. I hope I can return the favor some day).

    Promotion today :w00t: Yay me!!!!

    YAY you! Congratulations!

And in related news, I reach my 10 year anniversary on Friday. Well, Saturday technically, but I'm not working Saturday unless they chain my feet to my desk.

Or something goes fubar and I have to remote in... which is infinitely more likely. #sigh.

Anyway, they let me pick a prize out of a catalog for my award. There were all sorts of fun choices like jewelry and housewares and bikes and men's sunglasses. I picked a tabletop stove grill (Coleman). So I happily await my inexpensive little grill (which means I don't have to buy one) so I can do steaks or hot dogs or something for Thanksgiving. Because FLORIDA IS WARM.

Seriously, why can't we have a real winter where all the plants die?

Rambling now. Must get back to work and fix an SSAS install problem.

Good job on making it 10 years, Brandie. Yes, Florida is warm. In some months, it's crazy hot. Being in Michigan, I sometimes wonder what it's like to just skip winter every year. You never have to concern yourself with how many inches of snow you have to drive in, wonder if the county road commission will plow the roads soon and never have to shovel your driveway. Even with the negative, I must admit that I like winter. It would be nice, however, to have it in smaller doses and not when I have to get somewhere.

I'm not a fan of blizzards myself (unless they are of the DQ variety), but as an allergy sufferer, I appreciate the death of pollen on an annual basis. Which is hard to find in the South. Very hard to find.
