If any one is interested in a philosophical debate over the pros and cons of a File System based DB and a RDBMS, feel free. Not really sure if the OP will be convinced that SQL Server is worth the investment. Still believe in the "it depends" when it comes to what type of system should be used for any specific application.

It isn't that the questions are getting worse, I really think it is that the people working against the databases really have no business working without an on-site mentor that can guide them on the path to SQL enlightenment.

Some just don't understand their own data or what they are really trying to accomplish. Weak is the force? Seems almost non-existent.

Must be talking about the Jet vs SQL thread.
Like I said there, "it depends."

I was giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Agree. Too many don't have 2 clues. The employers can be blamed for some of it. Too many are not willing to pay a fair price for knowledgeable workers. In other cases, people get hired by people who have no idea how to assess a candidates knowledge and skills before hiring and some candidates seem to be good at exploiting that.
Had to tell a former manager once to stop automatically hiring the person who had best interview. Sometimes the best person interviewed is still not good enough.

Too bad most of you cannot be at our PASS Chapter meeting tonight. We're having an open discussion about "being a SQL person".
If you guys, and gals, were there, we might want to change the location to a bar. 😀

Couldn't resist. Posted a response. I'm not sure I understand the argument. Sounds like that old cartoon of "MongoDB is NET SPEED".

Here is a new one: SSIS is a cash cow add on to SQL Server.

I'd love to see how they justify that, since it and SSAS/SSRS are 'free'. :ermm:
