Hi all!
Long time no see... I've been away from the forums lately and I have 650 unread posts on The Thread (which I won't even try to catch up with). The answer is probably already there, but I really have no time to go through all that nonsense constructive conversations. 🙂
Today I got a strange behaviour when tryng to post an answer: the original thread was showing two replies from Jeff and Grant and when I hit "reply", a third post appeared:

additional "ghost" post:

I don't know. That's weird. But the site seems a little off today. A disturbance in the force perhaps.

That seems to happen when new users post links or lots of code and are in the spam filter. Seems like the posts are under review and might become completely visible afterwards.
I've seen that happen in several threads.

Thanks Luis: your explanation is spot on.
Nevertheless, I prefer Grant's: 🙂

It's as if a thousand bits cried out at once, and were suddenly silenced.
Or someone pulled the server plug.

I think it's in anticipation of my Star Wars RPG tonight. The puny resistance movement will be crushed under the might of the Imperial Army. The Emperor has foreseen it!

I'm less disappointed in the quality of questions than with the lethargy in replying.
Sometimes, and I've been there myself, due to work pressures, it is often quicker to post a question out to the network of experts on the site, than to spend time researching yourself.
My perception is that, for some, the game of accummulating points is more important than the quality of answers.
I think this is true to a degree whilst I fully appreciate there are numerous genuine and long-term contributors.

Welcome to a few thousand pages into a thread which is more a general chat thread than anything else these days.

Hi and welcome to the thread!! This is commonly known as the "water cooler". We chat, complain. commiserate, poke fun and all other sorts of stuff here.
Oddly enough one of the long time regulars felt much the same as you a few years ago and started this thread. Are the posted answers getting worse?
😀

I thought you just wanted commands. As for "top scripts", I'm not using anyone else's. I've written all my own such as sp_ShowWorst and sp_WhatsRunning, not to mention backups, index maintenance, etc, etc, ad infinitum.

I have to disagree about it being quicker to post a question than spending time researching yourself. Some questions can easily be answered just by using Google or Bing with the question as your search string. Seen it many times. Or, the question requires so much back and forth between the OP and the people trying to help, doing some research on your own ahead of time could be very beneficial in solving a problem more quickly.
I have posted a few questions myself prior to researching, but in those instances it was to get feedback from others while I searched for myself as well. The feedback I got was helpful in those cases by helping me narrow the search I was doing as well. I didn't sit back and wait for someone to provide me with the answer to my problem(s).
Oh, and welcome to the Water Cooler. There is a Tent in the Desert if you need it. We sometimes have parties there as well. Don't mind the Guard Hippo in the pink tutu, he's just there to make sure no one makes off with the silver spoons.

And the silver spoons are in high demand. Some days are worse than others, but they're normally ordered by the case. I've heard grumblings that the manufacturing facility was considering building a new plant right next door due to high demand.
And if you happen to see the crystal ball, be careful not to break it.
Above all else, don't misuse DBCC TIMEWARP. 😀

It could be anything really. The point of the article is to highlight the top 10 scripts that, frankly, you need to do what you've done, write 'em correctly once and then use 'em over and over rather than type them. It's supposed to be illustrative of the common tasks you do, but ought to automate. But that's also why I didn't want anyone's proprietary stuff. I just wanted to focus on the generic work for the beginner.
