Jokes aside, I do share the thought on wasted resources. As an example the most efficient XQuery that shreds a four level deep XML with two parallel branches on the third level has more than 180 operators in the plan tree, 10 times more than it takes to query the equivalent table structure.

The good part about it is that all hardware has had to become bigger, faster, and cheaper to be able to handle even just the tag bloat never mind the act of shredding nor the bloat of employing XML indexes.

You are WRONG, Sir! Case has absolutely EVERYTHING to do with the way things work. If we didn't have all caps, we couldn't get anyone's attention on the interwebs at all. They'd think we were just speaking normally and all that. @=)
