Are the posted questions getting worse?

Why is it SQLServerCentral gets so many Oracle questions on it?

Do you think it would be beneficial to create an Oracle thread? (Would it actually work?)

Or a banner on pages that says that this site is dedicated to Microsoft SQL Server?

The one year I worked with Oracle I got more help here on the Working with Oracle threads than I did on any of the Oracle sites I visited. They can't get help from their peers so they turn to us.

Having had to manage / support an Oracle install (worse, an Oracle RAC / cluster install) for a while, I gave up on the Oracle customer forums. Most of the time, the answers were the equivalent of "here's a link to an article on BOL that expects you to be on a Linux / Unix system instead of Windows, figure it out." I'd say never again, but if our Oracle DBA steps in front of a bus, I'll have to handle it again...

It just gets really frustrating when you're trying to help someone in a SQL Server forum, and then they complain that the solution doesn't work, when it does for the version of SQL that the post is in. Then they start posting Oracle error messages. Arg!

I had forgotten that SSC has some Oracle threads already. I never go into them.

Nothing wrong with an Oracle as long as it's in Delphi and tells your fortune, not the one that makes a fortune of you

    😀

Worked with Oracle many years ago. Luckily it was mostly one off queries that were simple. So no bad vibes from it. 😉

  • I realized that I have a lot of free time at work when I'm in the Top Members section for the last 30 days, thinking on writing a new article and even looking why the Dual table from Oracle is called Dual.

I really need some work to do at my job.

  • Okay, the PASS Conference is October 27th through October 30th (not currently registered for any pre-cons). I'm thinking I should fly in on the 26th and leave the evening of the 30th since I need to be back on the 31st to coach a U18 Girls soccer game.

This make since? I thought I should start looking into flights to Seattle now.

  • For the cheaper fares and more flexibility looks like I should fly in and out of DIA instead of COS.

Another question, should I book now or still wait a bit?

For cheaper fares, book as soon as possible.

Cheapest fares are generally 53 days before the flight. There are some variances to that, but is a good general number to remember.

Since you don't have as far to fly or as many time zones as I do, I think this is a reasonable plan.

I'd still recommend coming in on Monday. I'm assuming Andy and Steve will have their networking dinner on Monday night and there is always something to do on Tuesday.

There is SQL in the City (free) the monday prior to Summit.

There is also rumor of a (free) day long training by a bunch of MCMs on Tuesday.

Your offer still open regarding a room? Haven't heard back on the PM I sent a while back.

So you are hinting I should come in on Sunday?

Yes, but I never got the PM and I can't find the one I sent you.

I think you have my email address so use that and we'll work it out. I have the room Monday night through Friday night as I'm flying out Monday and back Saturday (once I book the flights).
