Are the posted questions getting worse?

I try very hard to be respectful and professional and help people even if it seems like they don't want the help; but I am not going to apologize any more when someone pushes my buttons and I get a bit antagonistic in response.

Cannot see anything wrong with your response Lynn and the WTF did irritate me as being something that does not belong to the forums. For what it's worth, I think your input to the forums are a large part of the value, helped me few quite few times and I'm certain that the same goes for most of the others.

I have learned much here at the feet of people like Jeff, Gail, Steve, Wayne, Jason, Jack, Ed, Eirikur, Sean, and many others. But I strive to learn more on my own as well, build on what others have taught me.

Aw shucks. I appreciate it. You were one of the first to teach me on this forum. And we all should strive to continue to learn. That's at least something SSC does for me - help me learn.

Thanks, Lynn - I'm flattered. Please know that I think I've learned more from you than you've learned from me.

Jason, SSC does the same for me and probably a whole lot of other people as well.

I try very hard to be respectful and professional and help people even if it seems like they don't want the help; but I am not going to apologize any more when someone pushes my buttons and I get a bit antagonistic in response.

But you are Saint Lynn. Maybe we have rubbed off on you too much? Then again, I can't say that I blame you. I know the feeling!

You are certainly one of the most patient people here. Just this week, I've had to force myself to not respond to the original Silver Spoon because I would have come across horribly.

It is good to hear that Baan is no more, but I'm not surprised. I guess their miserable product finally caught up with them.

It died (but only in name) a long time ago. Baan were faking their revenue reports and were caught at it in 1998, with the result that their stock price took a dive. By 2000 they were so beset by lawsuits and financial difficulties arising from a long period of declining revenue hat they sold the company to Invensys; 3 years later Invensys sold Baan to SSAG for less than 20% of what they paid for it. SSAG changed the software's name from whatever it the was to SSA ERP LN, and just under 6 years later SSAG was taken over by Infor Global Solutions who changed it to Infor10 ERP Ln. I think there were at least two more name changes somewhere along the line, but have no idea when or by whom.

Anyway, it's apparently much the same miserable over-complicated ERP junk as it always was; and from running with 7 different database systems it's down to running with only 4. So, for example, MySQL people no longer have to cope with it.

Yes it is pretty much the same miserable over-complicated ERP junk as always. They took the old RPG code and used a tool to convert it to java which is what the front end is "written" in today. All of the primary and foreign keys are logical only.

    select * from sys.foreign_keys

    (0 row(s) affected)

    select * from sys.key_constraints

    (0 row(s) affected)

    select count(*) from sys.tables

    (3816 row(s) affected)

Then add to it a case sensitive collation and this has the smell of a very long and painful process to transition our business to this.

Same here. Lynn was one of those people who helped me a lot on this forum. I am flattered and a bit humbled to be mentioned in a comment on par with the other names on that list.

We have all lost our patience with ungrateful self deserving posters from time to time. I know I have had my hand slapped by the thread and even a few private messages from Steve and Jeff a few years ago. No biggie. We are good at self regulating and maintaining a professional atmosphere even when one of us goes on tilt for moment. 😀

I don't know about others but I am really tired of people thinking that using vulgarity is appropriate in a professional environment and this is a professional environment and it bothers me more and more as I get older. Enough of the WT*.

    Was there another one today?

Just the "regular", couldn't resist to comment:-P

They took the old RPG code and used a tool to convert it to java which is what the front end is "written" in today. All of the primary and foreign keys are logical only.

Moving from rpg to java by machine conversion sounds to me like a neat recipe for performance deterioration and unexpected problems, so maybe it's even sicker than before.

    select * from sys.foreign_keys

    select * from sys.key_constraints

    (0 row(s) affected)

    select count(*) from sys.tables

What are you using for an RDBMS? SQL Server would say 1 row(s) affected (for the single row containing the count). :hehe:

Then add to it a case sensitive collation and this has the smell of a very long and painful process to transition our business to this.

Like you (I think it's like you, anyway) I believe that the default collation for just about any database should be case insensitive (and accent sensitive). But there are some pretty big guns who take a different view (Hugo, for example). So we probably shouldn't blame Jan Baan back in 1978 (before there was any commercially available RDBMS) for following some earlier big guns and deciding his application's data would be case-sensitive.

No, just a slight continuation of yesterday, plus 19+ months of dealing with it in Afghanistan. I truly believe using vulgar language drops an individuals IQ about 50%. How can you sound professional, intelligent, educated when every other word out of someone's mouth is foul or vulgar? I'm just tired of it and I think yesterday just spiked it.

  • So, my laptop offered me the Win10 upgrade. I figured I'd sign up for it (laptop was recently reloaded to Win7 Pro) and worst case I can dump it...

So far, I'm neither excited nor disappointed, considering I've only been using it now for about 30 minutes...

Need to get the rest of my normal stuff on it (MS Office, SSMS, etc) tomorrow...

I updated my laptop from 8.1 to 10 and it was definitively an improvement. I'm not sure if I would say the same about updating from 7.

Its a definite improvement over 8.1, I like the fact I can customise the start menu and get rid of those ugly tiles.

I need to upgrade my desktop from 7 to 10, but I need to flatten and rebuild, it's not going to upgrade. First though I need to upgrade my server to 2012 R2, and that's a mission. I've been putting it off for months.

Thanks Brandie. I knew of the wifi sharing item, some of the others I turn off by default during install, the rest I need to go in and set tonight. My laptop probably takes the most "abuse" of my systems, it started life with Win7 Home Premium, went to 7 Pro, then 8 / 8.1 Pro, then back to 7 Pro to get the Win10 update (which it should've gotten with 8/8.1, but...)
