I guess I've had enough of this forum for this week.http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1707595-2799-1.aspx
You did fine and you're absolutely spot on. You've said what we're all thinking. Well, except maybe for me. I've not responded at all because I would not have been nearly as kind as you were. I have a very strong dislike for such JackHoles that rope a client in hook, line, and sinker and then they can't even spell SQL.
I admit it wasn't the most polite answer. I feel a lot better about having said it when I see people like Gail and Jason posting something that more or less backs up my comment. 🙂
Jeff, it wouldn't have been as fine if I had said what I was really thinking. 😎
Echoing Jeff, you said what probably all of us were thinking.

It IS exasperating. Lot's of good people out there are busting a hump to learn the art and then some poser/faker destroys the trust in the art with their client or an interviewer. No need to pile on but here's another one. As you say, my response wouldn't have been fine if I said what I was really thinking. This fellow doesn't even know where to look for information on SQL Server but still applied for a job.

What a total waste of time for the interviewers. Pork chops are not enough for these people whether they believe themselves to be innocent or not.

And the major problem is that people that actually know won't get the interview because they didn't lie as much to the recruiter.

It depends on the level of the position, right?
When I left university, I had very little knowledge of "real" database development. My mother was sick, so straight after graduating I spent about 6 months helping her. When I came to apply for jobs, all of the "fresh graduate" jobs were gone. I applied for a lot of positions and in the end, wrote to a few companies offering to work for free for 6 months just to get some experience. There was no lying, I made it quite clear that I'd need training. One of the first things that a principal engineer told me to do was sign up on this site and start asking, answering and looking at questions. It's now the first things I suggest that new employees do when they start here.

I like the idea of the siren. We used a howling monkey. And in other news ... you changed your profile pic.
A howling monkey has the benefit that it can probably throw. . . ummmm. . . something, at the offending party.
Changed my profile pick due to the lack of interest that people have in scanning QR codes on the internet, for some reason :hehe:

I couldn't tell you, Koen. I'm back after a one week vacation myself. I think we're in the same position, having the catch up on the thread we missed and reading through the zillions of emails we got while we were gone. 😉

Absolutely spot on and I'm glad that I didn't jump on the person that I was talking about. It turns out, according to him, that he's applying for an entry level position (I do wish they'd acknowledge that right up front... they'd get better help. It DOES, however, make you wonder why such an intermediate level question was asked of a known entry level candidate. I hope it was more of a "tie breaker" question than anything else.

That's what I love about holidays, you come back with a renewed optimism. That's showed on the hope of having better questions posted on SSC as if that's even a possibility.

Agreed. It's one of the things that I consider when posting my reply... how easy would Google have been for this question?
Now, to obfuscate it a bit, take that lmgtfy link and run over to your url shortening service of choice (bit.ly, etc.)

Read the following comment made today by Silver Spoon on a 4 year old thread:
ok, thank you very much.
I inherited these databases so I'm very green but thank you.
I will get back to you. Have a great day.
Silver Spoon has been a member of ssc for 10 years. Still considers himself very green? I think most of you know what my next question is ...
