Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • GilaMonster (6/3/2015)

My general guideline is 'new question -> new thread'.

If I open a thread and notice that the OP is a year old, I probably won't look any further.

    Thanks for the advice.

Apologies if my following question is answered on a FAQ somewhere (if so - I cant find it) but what is the rule here regarding thread bumping? If the thread is relevant but older than say 1 month should we start a new thread ?

Depends on how I feel as to whether or not I read, but a lot of people generally go with what Gail said.

I might be an exception but I don't mind folks reopening an old thread to ask a similar question because 1) I might be able to draw on a previous answer to help you, 2) it shows that certain problems still exist and might be good impetus to write an article on it and 3) shows me that certain problems/solutions (especially the solutions) have no "end of life".

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • I think I'm ready for a new thread. I'm seeing way too many responses to questions that not really related to the question asked. The new thread should be called: "Are the posted answers getting worse?"

Sorry, had to vent for a minute. Carry on.

I'll pick up some black candles and incense on the way home. Maybe one of the Great Old Ones will know.

  • It might be nice if an expert on indexes could look at this one. I've made a stab at it, but I'm not confident that I've got it right. Maybe you could look at it, Gail?

    SMH...

Why would the person who wrote the procedure ask on a public forum why his procedure is returning a value of -6 when executed?

Just tell the OP that he needs to whip the cream longer!
