Are the posted questions getting worse?

What is the world coming to, this one posted the skype but forgot the Credit Card Number 😀

    😎

I've had people DM me as well with their skype details, and on LinkedIn as well.

Normally your standard rate is enough to scare them off 😀

Need an answer? No, you need a question

  • Steve, my brother is getting hitched on the 4th of July weekend in Breckinridge. I'm not sure we're going to be able to make it, but assuming we do go, is there stuff for a 3 yr old to do for several days that will preserve our (and his) sanity? I'll even take recommendations for Denver, since we could head back to the city after the 4th and fly out a few days later.

we're not hikers or climbers, we're flat landers who are old and fat but have a kid. Museums/indoor waterpark are more our speed.

    suggestions?

Three year old, Colorado Springs has Santa's Workshop. My kids loved going there from the time they could walk (my oldest now has a 3 year old, 18 month old, and 3 day old) and they still like going there.

We would get there before they opened and stay there until they closed.

Of course you also have Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs and the Denver Zoo up in Denver. Our kids like both.

And the zoo in Colorado Springs is cool too. Feeding the giraffes was something our boys really enjoyed.

First, drink lots of water (1 gal/day), and if I struggle in Breck, drive down to Denver for a day. Altitude sickness is nothing to mess with. If you can, start with a night in DEN to start adjusting.

There are some museums in Denver, but not great. We have a small flight museum, a few smaller ones around town like the Molly Brown House and the Paul Robeson museum near downtown. You can drive up a couple mountains. Longs Peak as you leave DEN for Breck or down in CO Springs, you can take the cog railway up to Pikes Peak. That's kind of neat. Decent natural history/science museum.

There are a few indoor water parks on the North side, one in Arvada. Since I'm S, we don't go up there much, so not sure. Breck has a large indoor rec center and there's one in Silverthorne as well. Good outlet mall in Silverthorne as well if you want to shop a bit.

Lots of great hiking, but can be tough. If you don't want those, that's fine. Estes Park is a neat small town in the mountains, but maybe a bit far. Breck is actually nice to walk around, eat, relax. Keystone is close and they'll gondola you to the top for dinner if you want. A touch pricey, but a neat experience.

I'll think a bit more about what else you might do. Certainly there are some nice hot springs. Not sure near Breck, but a bit further in Glenwood Springs for sure.

If you are up to driving around a bit, there is also the Great Sand Dunes National Park down near Alamosa/Walsenburg. Nothing like seeing sand dunes up against the mountains. And talk about soft sand, it's pretty cool.

If you want to do the Cog railway, you may want to go online and see about making reservations.

Heed Steve's advice about altitude sickness, drink plenty of water and take it easy.

  • I went to Salt Lake City a few years ago for a writers' thing and saw one of the guest speakers get totally hosed by altitude sickness. It was not pretty. She was miserable.

  • Also watch out for the sun. You can get sun burn far easier at high altitudes than low. Take sun cream, use it liberally, even if the day is cold.

Or cloudy. Yes, UV does go through clouds, especially in the mountains.

    +1.

My first and last 3rd degree sunburn was during high altitude hiking. It can be very deceiving.

Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on my part...unless you're my manager...or a director and above...or a really loud-spoken end-user..All right - what was my emergency again?

  • Sunscreen is important. I'd also caution you to bring a light jacket always. A 90F day can turn cold quickly when the sun goes down. Much different than sea level, especially in the mountains.

  • Still finding it interesting that the only notifications I am getting are for old threads I am subscribed to but not the ones I have recently subscribed to. Anyone else having this issue?

My notifications appear to be working properly. I have notifications for topics I posted to today for the first time. I'm curious, what happens if you start a new topic? If you start one, I'll post a reply to it to see if you get notified.
