Are the posted questions getting worse?

    That's pretty awesome!!!

    It is indeed.

The comments on the article are also pretty awesome: they include some of the best examples of blindly ignorant and uneducated pedantry I've ever seen. I've always wondered why people think a nasty little pocket dictionary can tell them what a word means in perhaps two lines of text when any decent dictionary will devote a page or more to it.

Dem apples look like fun - in fact I'd be willing to play as long as I could be Melody - maybe Steve could volunteer to be the mediator (can't be much worse than looking after these forums) but who could we cast as Richard?

  • Has anyone seen the last comments for Friday's featured article? I'm sorry for provoking such a bad reaction, I didn't mean to do that.

Did I say something wrong? Was my comment too harsh?

Nothing wrong with your comment, in fact I was about to post almost exactly the same comment when I saw yours.

Yeah, nothing wrong with the comments there.

Too much talk on that thread. Someone needs to build a large test table there. Only the code knows what will really happen. Let the code do the talking.

Excellent. And help that young fellow learn how to wear asbestos underwear when everyone is trying to burn him at the stake. You know what I mean. You're really good at it. You even manage to put up with me. 😀

I saw it but didn't notice it was a republish. Didn't comment though because I expected the author wouldn't like what I had to say. I like what Jeff has added to the thread about the proof being in the performance test.

My mantra: No loops! No CURSORs! No RBAR! Hoo-uh![/I]

My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?

    My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.
