By the way, Gianluca is a giant.

So this means if and when I meet Gianluca he'll have to be seated for us to see eye to eye.:-P

Well, he might have to be laying down for that to happen...:-D

    Ouch, that's a low blow 😀

    Operative word being low :hehe:;-):w00t:

Take the high road, Jack. Just take the high road.

And now I'm going to have Loch Lomond playing in my head all day. Thank you.

Wow! I have little to say.

Quick question, this is a normal size Strat in your picture then?

    😎

Not a Strat it is a Fender Bass and yes it is normal sized.

Gianormous (:-) ) was only there Saturday as far as I know. So if you did see him on Thursday then you should have also done the lottery!

Yes, only Saturday. I enjoyed it a lot, but I swear that I will never ever make it again.

I took a plane from Venice at 10.30 PM on Friday, spent 2 hours at Stansted for passport checks, lost the last train to London, took a coach to Liverpool St. Station, then a taxi to the Hotel. I arrived there at 3.30 AM, which was 4.30 for me.

I got up at 7.30 (slept 2,5 hrs) and got to SQLBits.

Saturday night I had dinner with some friends and got to bed at midnight. At 2.30 AM I got up to take a taxi to Liverpool St. Station, took the train, then plane to Venice.

Total slept: 5 hours in 2 nights. I'm getting too old for this kind of things.

Next time I'll spend at least 3 days in the UK.

Yout might pay closer attention to the news than I do. Another possibility is that you really like to read obituaries. As long as you aren't trying to find yourself, you're doing okay. :hehe:

flying late into Stansted is bad news, flying to Gatwick is much better as there are trains all night. I used to fly in regularly (not from Venice, sadly - I've not managed to get back there since the mid-70s) on either a flight landing just after midnight or a flight landing just after one (which time depended on the day of the week) and I would be in central London pretty quickly because the trains were still running quite frequently (if I remember rightly, the longest gap between sucessive trains is about 2 hours starting at about 03:00). But mayb things have changed in the last 6 years (I stopped flying into Gatwick when I stopped working in London).

Unfortunately I had no choice. Low cost airlines (RyanAir) fly to Stansted only. To add more irony, the SQLBits venue was very close to London City Airport.

  • It was great to meet you, Gianluca, and sorry we didn't get to talk more. I'll have to get down to Italy at some point.

And yes, you are a giant in a few ways. 2m and quite intelligent.

    Gianluca,

Sadly as most people discovered the Excel is great if you fly in to London City, not great for any other London airport! Next time let me know you plans, if I'm in East Anglia still, Stansted isn't that bad a drive for me.

    Cheers,

  • So went through the next batch of photos. Up to Thursday lunchtime more or less.

Found this rather silly one of our very Steve helping with putting up the Redgate stand...
