Are the posted questions getting worse?

Thank you all for the welcome home messages. It is great to be back in the USA. You don't realize what you have until you don't have it any more. I actually enjoyed my time in Afghanistan, but I am extremely glad to be home and looking forward to the next 4 weeks off before going back to the normal 8 hour a day, 5 day week grind instead of the 12+ hour 7 days a week.

Hope you have a wonderful vacation

    I am HOME!

I had a nice dinner at Kassondra's house. I'm sorry, nothing beats good home cooking!

    Great to have you home.

  • So you ever have one of those days when a code change got slipped in (your code change) and everyone forgot to check it in test because it was such a MINOR thing. And then month end rolls around and that MINOR code change suddenly flips into negative X million dollars because you inadvertantly subtracted ITD numbers from MTD numbers?

    (headdesk)

This has been my day. Can I have a redo, please?

EDIT: To qualify, I got very lucky. The file has not yet hit the financial system, so it can be deleted and regenerated with the correct code, which I am testing now. But still, I feel like jumping in the ocean and swimming over to Europe to escape the embarrassment.

Don't do that - you just get wet and tired. Things which embarrass cross the Atlantic far faster than you can swim - such things used to beat Concorde into 3rd place (in the days when Concorde still flew), the only thing that crossed faster than then them was (and still is) government generated misinformation.

Hey, I already signed up for the TP. Someone else has to bring the cups.

I really, really, really wish I could afford to go to London.

  • Not to be weird, but...

YAY! I HAVE MY FIRST SUSPECT DATABASE!

It's a non-prod reporting database that doesn't get backed up, so now I can really some practice in. @=)

Of course, I could cheat and just restore it from the OLTP database that it usually gets restored from, but that's too easy of a solution.

(rubs hands together gleefully). Is it twisted that I'm about to enjoy myself this morning?

I don't think it's completely twisted that you enjoy it, but it's pretty nice that you have an ace up your sleeve to rebuild it if nothing else works. So, I guess congratulations are in order on your suspect database and a chance to play. πŸ˜‰

And now I am heart broken. It's only a space issue. Some nimrod (probably me) restored the DB to the wrong drive.

Bleargh. And here I thought I was going to be able to do SCHTUFF. Still, I might as well follow the insufficient drive space issue along to see what else I can find before I fix it.

Sorry for your loss. I know what you mean about wanting to try stuff out.

Doesn't Paul Randall have some suspect databases and ones that have integrity check errors available for download? It's been a while, but I think I remember downloading some a while back for testing. You might be able to play after all.

Well, I put it in emergency mode and am running DBCC CheckDB (no params) against it to see what comes up. We'll see what I get to learn (although, I already know to avoid the repair with data loss option).
