Are the posted questions getting worse?

So, just a point of curiosity.

Will there ever be a fix for that snafu a bit back that obliterated points for a bunch of threadizens?

Heh... nah... just renenter all the posts. 😉

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Hello all,

Just caught up with the thread. Was away for Christmas then experienced New years Eve in London. basically it takes 2 hours longer to get back! So got home at 4:15. Should have booked a hotel, but it was last minute. Oh did I forget I drove down from North Scotland as well that day? Near Aberdeen. Mad utterly mad...

Then took me 2 days more or less to get back on normal time due all of that!

    So...

    Happy New Year All!

Gianluca massive congrats on the MVP.

Lynn - hope the remaining days fly by uneventful and we will have to meet in person at the Summit seeing as you are going... yay!

Dwain - good luck with the house move...

Um, have I forgot anyone, anything? 🙂

Me? Well last contract ended at the end of the year, so looking for a new 'gig'. Just had a few days off the radar so to speak to try and catch up with all that stuff that you get behind with when working away.

    Taking of PASS...

I pretty much know where I'll be staying - probably the Hilton nearby. Hopefully I can get a good price this week as they have a sale... And maybe the flights as well as there are 'sales' on now as well.

But I do know someone who is going for the first time and doesn't want to pay the price for the recommended hotels. Everyone I know stayed in one of the main hotels last year and it was my first Summit in Seattle, so I didn't know what to suggest. So for those who have been before, if you'd all like to throw some suggestions my way I can pass them on.

    Cheers,

    Rodders...

Speaking of Lynn, where's that countdown?

My mantra: No loops! No CURSORs! No RBAR! Hoo-uh![/I]

My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?

    My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.

Post it closer to the end of my shift. Still have about 30 minutes.

Wow, that's a complete disaster. I wouldn't just be "downloading data to make sure I had access during the outage" I'd be looking for new providers and rethinking my own data center.

    I agree.

I have a client using Azure that recently experienced a 12+hr outage (caused by Azure maintenance) and they were considering alternatives. That is a long time.

Really! Huh. I'm surprised MS didn't make it invisible by shifting them around.

    They do.

If we're thinking of the same one, it was a mistake. The maintenance, instead of rolling across the data centers as it should have, applied to everything at the same time.

Maybe. Meanwhile, no response from them yet.

Now all you have to do is to create a SQL Job that posts random text to this form every few seconds:-D

Yeah it is. Our WebSense filter lets me through. Either way, it probably isn't worth hitting them. We don't want to stoop to their level.
