    Bar in my home town.

Can't see it being suitable for a gathering, somehow. Certainly if Jeff Moden's invited,

    http://www.tavistockleisure.com/r-bar.htm%5B/quote%5D

LOL here is the mug from a bar near my house also called the R Bar. I posted a pic of the outside in here a couple years ago.

That's in Lawrence, KS, isn't it, Sean?

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Now that is just too funny - a bar called R-Bar. Jeff would have to bring the industrial pork chop launcher and spike the pork chops with high explosives. Thank you both for sharing. Having a laugh on a Friday is always good.

UNLESS they're smoked pork chops. That has to be my absolute favorite meal. Of course, a good pork gravy to go along with a massive pile of mashed spuds completes the meal.

Well Jeff would have to employ GBAG (Glass By Agonizing Glass) or get an Overflow Exception 😀

Heh... I've reached the "Overflow Exception" a couple of times in my life but, unlike GBAG, I enjoyed every glass to the max. The occasional sip of Drambuie made it all the better.

If you really want to make your tongue throw a party for your mouth, get a slice of really good Pecan pie (the really good ones aren't sickeningly sweet), put a squashed ball of homemade frozen custard on it, and dribble a shot of Drambuie over the whole lot. YUM! You end up with BBGB (Bite By Glorious Bite).

Don't even think of drinking beer for about an hour after that, though. Except for a straight shot of Alum, there's not much more bitter. Well, unless you drop a shot of Drambuie into the beer before you drink it.

Is Drambuie a Navy thing? I hear sailors (my brother included) always talking about Drambuie. Never had it myself (also, I was in the Air Force).

I don't think so. I personally knew of no fellow sailors that drank it. I was the only one on 3 different crews that I knew drank it.

The USAF knew about drambuie 45 years ago - or at least 513 TAW did.

I always wondered why Americans were so hot on drambuie but mostly had never heard of glayva, until i realised that it's probably because glayva is newer (first sold in 1947) than drambuie (first sold in 1912) and americans in Europe didn't get exposed to it when a lot were there. For me (and the awards records for the two drinks suggest that I'm right) glayva is the better drink - but there's not much in it. But I wonder what will happen to drambuie now that Grant's has bought it.

    edit:fix horrible typo (1940 for 1912)

    Try this pecan recipe sometime.

Might be just about the right supporting platform for your toppings.

BBGB - great way to describe food, but what's the Beer equivalent? 'Sip By' might be for those wishing to avoid the dreaded Overflow Exception.

Well, that depends on your throughput. 😀

  • The spam has hit with a vengeance. I'm inclined to agree with a post a while back that it's an actual person, not an automated process. The rate appears to be about 2 per minute, so someone's probably pasting things in. They appear to be from a limited number of users. The username "ha.aaaoruankhueoudstosduerl" looks like the worst, but I don't have a COUNT(*) to use on the web page.

active threads/recent posts this afternoon/evening are unusable due to spam.

I am losing patience in seeing any improvement particularly at weekends.

would be interested to see the data from this site ......posts v's responses over the last six months...I have a suspicion that there may be a downward trend.

really hope things can be improved.......

Awesome! Just look at all that butter!!!! That page also has a movie/recipe for pecan pies and a link to a lunch time favorite, pecan tassies! Thanks, Greg!

  • It seems that whatever is being done regarding spam posts is effective during the week and then is an epic fail on the weekend. There are 80 posts when I did the recent posts just now. All but one was a spam post.

Guess I should look for other things to do on the weekend.

Not only an epic failure but completely backwards, as well. I've submitted several posts and they fail to show up in the "posts added today" at all.

I suspect that like me, others aren't looking at SSC over the weekend (sorry my wife normally has other stuff planned at the weekend) and normally don't pay as much attention to it as they do during the week.
