That sounds like a good and bad news. And the good news sound great.Thank you for the update, Steve.
In an unrelated topic, have you ever seen a code and want to vomit but after formatting it you just want to cry? I really can't understand how things continue to work in my office.
Yes, but that makes me reconsider what I think I know. sometimes things aren't as bad as I've been taught to believe.
And I realize that there's way more tolerance for error and mistake in the world than I ever considered.
Heh... reminds me of my cousin who says "I had to do something even if it was wrong!"
When will people, especially managers, learn?
@luis... just say "Forgive them, Codd, for they know not what they do." π The good part about it all is that you're practically guaranteed employment for the rest of your life and at a pretty good rate, too!

I hope it was a joke as well, but I fear it wasn't. Developers tend to zone out when talk of security comes up. "You know, all security does is get in the way of me doing my job" is one of my favorite quotes I've heard. Sigh.

I'm a little late to the party but my most sincere congratulations to Grant for his new position on the PASS Board. Very well deserved.

Hey Grant, you do realise that your utili kilt just won't cut the mustard now on Kilt Day at the Summit. You need a proper one with you special PASS cloth πRodders...

Well, I was given good news and bad news today. Before I get to that, though, I go home for Christmas/New Years in 61 days! Only home for two weeks then back out here to Afghanistan.
Now, the bad news, my request for an extension until September 2015 was denied.
The good news, when I come home at the end of February I still have a job with ISS.

I'm sure he's not worried about you few. Lots of women love a man in a kilt.

That is awesome!!! Wish you would have been able to stay as you wanted but at least it sounds like things will be fairly easy to step back into when you get home for good.

Just need to know what my job is when I get home. I think I'll try to get a lunch meeting with the Field Services Director while home over Christmas to see what I will be doing when I redeploy as well as work out a much needed vacation before starting back to work. I will need time to veg a bit.

That's mostly great news, Lynn. At least you still have a job when your assignment ends. And yes, the time to chill out and relax a bit is long overdue. You've been out there for what seems like forever and I don't imagine you get much time to wind down. Glad to hear you still have a job when you come home. Christmas with the family - that's the best news of all.

Coming home for Christmas was part of this last extension I got that runs through February 27, 2015. I didn't want a break in September as much as I wanted to be home for Christmas.

I thought there was a forum for the Redgate tools but I can't seem to find it.
What I was looking for was if there is a command line tool to convert a Redgate Backup file to a native SQL backup file. We use SQL Backup on our production servers but we don't always have Redgate Backup available to restore the backups to test VMs that we spin up at various times.

Hi!
It's been a very long time since I last posted on THE thread...
Actually it's been a very long time since I posted regularly on the forums, but now I want to start again.
I've been very busy during the last two years and something had to go.
Now that I'm back, I'm glad to see that the same good people are still the soul of this community.
However, I'm a bit scared of the quality of the questions, which seem to have turned even worse (to go back to the original topic of THE thread).
I'm even more scared about the extreme slowness of the site. It's nearly unusable as it is.
Is it just me or does it load slowly for everyone?

It isn't just you. It seems like posting is the slowest, with clicking Reply or Quote coming in next. It's been going on for a while and they're looking at it.
