Are the posted questions getting worse?

    Last weekend attended the preconference and SQL Saturday in Vianen/Utrecht (The Netherlands). Unfortunate Learte JR couldn't make it so I missed the Powershell pre-con. So I went to Denny Cherry instead and he gave a nice allround session about SQL Server.

    The saturday was excellent organized and I attended great sessions from Hugo Kornelis, Pieter Vanhove (thanks for the beer!), Kevin Kline and Grant Fritchey. Most information was a confirmation I was doing things the right way, but also learned a lot of new stuff that I could implement...

    Thank you all for making this event possible!

    Laerte couldn't make it to the SQL Server Days either. Too bad, would have liked to meet him.

    Oh didn't get there in time for the Pre-cons, so didn't know that Learte didn't make it. Didn't think I saw him on the Saturday. Too bad.

    Is it just me or does this smell like a spam? A quick search returned few similar postings referencing the same vendor on other sites.

    It's the same kind of thing we keep getting on 'damaged database' threads. A pre-written spiel and a link to a tool that may or may not be of any use to the OP, posted to piles of threads that have anything to do with damaged/inaccessible databases/backups, even if the problem was solved years ago.

    They come in sets, I just report them as spam.

A pre-written spiel and a link to a tool that may or may not be of any use to the OP, posted to piles of threads that have anything to do with damaged/inaccessible databases/backups, even if the problem was solved years ago.

    They come in sets, I just report them as spam.

    I saw some of that over the weekend too. Someone posted a reply to a problem from 2010, which I found odd. Then I saw it a few more times, so I just ignored them. This one looks like a thinly veiled attempt at advertising...and it wasn't a very good one. Advertising an old Foxpro recovery question and solution to a SQL Server forum? You'd think they could find something that's a little more geared to their target audience.

    No, it's not just you. Although you're going to have to keep a eye on the Recent Forum Posts to know if anybody answers you.

    Although while writing this I've just had a notification from an hour or so ago!


    On two occasions I have been asked, "Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?" ... I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

    Although while writing this I've just had a notification from an hour or so ago!

    Some of them were a few hours old.

    As if regular spam wasn't annoying enough, one particalar user is now "spamming" the recent posts view with QotD threads...

    That has been going on for a couple of weeks. I commented about it awhile back myself. The worst part is the obvious efforts to accumulate points is wasted by useless comments like "Thanks for the question." for QOTD that are 6-7 years old. The upside is the end of the list should be approaching fast. πŸ˜€

    This could of caused by a very cheap and dull copy of the crystal ball (more like a rear view mirror) or even DBCC TIMEWARP fluctuation, did someone just run it with READ UNCOMMITTED?
