Are the posted questions getting worse?

    Dev Updates:

Top priority for the IT team, which manages dev, is reducing SPAM. They are looking at integrating with ASKIMET for rating comments, but I've also asked them to think about hiding posts that have links in them for people with < 10 posts.

On the points, it's a low priority item now. There are a few other things with RG.com and SQL in the City that are more important.

Did the IT team came up with a time line for implementation? This weekend the forum is just flooded with spam. Again.

I just hope they count in days, not months.... πŸ˜‰

    Yet another spam-tastic weekend:angry:

The SPAM comes every weekend and we are aware of it. It's not simple to find ways to limit this without also causing issues for users. I don't have a timeline, and since I end up deleting lots of SPAM, it's just as much an annoyance for everyone here as me.

Pressing, but that's all I can do.

I feel for you, Steve, I really do. It just gives me an excuse to take a break from the site, which is actually a good thing. There are other things I can be doing between the tasks I need to work on out here in Afghanistan.

  • Is it just me or does this smell like a spam? A quick search returned few similar postings referencing the same vendor on other sites.

I suspect it's a series of questions and answers designed to get people to look at the product. It's not SPAM, in my opinion, but a little devious. A post or two isn't something I worry about, since asking and answering a question is what we do here.

I agree, this kind of postings are not a great concern yet, but it does highlight the potential level of complexity of the spamming to come, probably in not too far future.

So in Utrecht, for SQL Sat Holland.

Early start, have coffee, seen some familiar faces, so going well so far!

Any one got a heckle for Grant? πŸ™‚

Jeff talking of wanting to meet list, you are on mine along with Lynn, it will happen one day!

    Cheers,

I'm in Pittsburgh for SQL Saturday 315 and I just got a PM from "Luke L" (one of the older members of SQL Server Central that's been laying low lately) saying that he's going to be able to attend. I get to cross another one of my favorites off my "Got to meet someday" bucket list.

Of course, Brian Davis is in town, as well. This is really odd for me... I've never met the rest of the presenters before.

I've got to tell you that the folks that put this event together did one heck of a nice job so far. I can't wait for tomorrow.

Enjoy! Sorry I can't make it. They invited me in Feb, but timing didn't work out. Far too many trips in Oct, including two next week, so I had to skip.

Would have liked to see you, Jeff. And others. I keep meeting new people all the time that have been on SSC for a long time, like Sean a few weeks ago.

NP, Steve. We'll hook up again. Someday, I'm going to make it out to CO for one of these.

Oh my. Including yourself, there are a fair number of people on my bucket list that I'd love to meet but there's not much of a chance that I'll ever make it across the pond. I even have difficulty making it to the Summit.

Indeed Jeff! Not to worry, I was pulling your leg about you visiting here πŸ™‚ the summit should be in my calendar most years, and I do want to see more of the USA so if I can tie those visits with SQL Sats then we are bound to meet up sooner or later.

  • Last weekend attended the preconference and SQL Saturday in Vianen/Utrecht (The Netherlands). Unfortunate Learte JR couldn't make it so I missed the Powershell pre-con. So I went to Denny Cherry instead and he gave a nice allround session about SQL Server.

The saturday was excellent organized and I attended great sessions from Hugo Kornelis, Pieter Vanhove (thanks for the beer!), Kevin Kline and Grant Fritchey. Most information was a confirmation I was doing things the right way, but also learned a lot of new stuff that I could implement...

Thank you all for making this event possible!

Laerte couldn't make it to the SQL Server Days either. Too bad, would have liked to meet him.
