NomCom = weed out those who are truly unfit, nothing more. They should be like an HR person screening resumes. Don't give me the one who has been only flipping burgers for the last ten years, but don't try to hire the candidate for me.
Basically weeding out the truly unfit is what the NomCom does now. Yes, they provide a ranking, based on the applications and interviews, but, again, it is just to provide another piece of information for voters. Now there are the online meetings with the candidates, the twitter chats, the forums, and the candidate pages that allow the voter to do more research. It isn't perfect, and never will be but it is light years better than it was 5 years ago. I've been involved in all areas of the elections process as an applicant (weeded out by the NomCom before the current process was in place), a member of the NomCom, and a voter.
Yes, I'd like to see the NomCom rankings published and not just the overall rank, but how the NomCom ranked in each area that they evaluate, but it is better than it was, when it seemed the NomCom arbitrarily eliminated people.

Having just going through the nomcom process, I thought it seemed pretty fair. There's an assumption of knowledge about the inner workings of the board that maybe shouldn't be there. This focus on the portfolios, like all of us out in the community think of things like that ALL THE TIME, gets more than a little off putting. But, it's coming from people who have been focused on the portfolios, pretty much all the time. So, I understand it. The ranking is fine. That didn't bother me, heck, I would have assumed that's where I would rank. What did bother me was a lot of the communication that took place during the process. Much of it was inadequate (for example, I never received notification of how to call in for my interview, someone had to tweet me to ask where I was), some of it was insulting. That's something I'll report on to the board separately. But overall, I think they did a good job. You guys should be happy with that aspect of it.

SPAM ALERT:150 spam threads on the Recent Posts. Not a single post for help visible.
I reported two of those and left the forum afterwards.
If there's nothing done in the near future to prevent (or at least reduce significantly) such a spam volume, the number of people asking a question as well as those willing to answer will drop significantly, I'd guess...

It looks like there are 3 to 6 posts being added every minute. This looks to be automated to me. Even doing cut and paste I don't think I could add that many that quickly.
It's an automated spam process.
The design is rather easy: find a "hole" to sneak in and repeat the insert it over and over again. You could even use PowerShell to process a spam list.
The tricky part is to find the "hole". But it seems like SSC is wide open to scripting attacks...
It also looks like the spammers found a way to increase the visit count. Usually, the count remained Zero.
Since there may not be an easy way to prevent such spam programmatically, the suggestion to allow our heavy hitters to "hide" such posts/users seems to be the better approach.

There was no chance to get the log chain back. The intervals for logs are hourly, so I couldn't recover beyond that without lots of work for the admins.
