Um... http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic1612868-3411-1.aspx ????I invoke the barge pole rule.
2nd that. Does the motion pass??
Motion passes with no objections.
Without objection, it is so ordered. Now that it's passed, I have to ask: What's the barge pole rule? It sounds like it'll be good. 😛
Barge pole rule - "Don't touch it with a 10 foot barge pole" Can also be a 10 meter barge pole or just any plain old pole you can find;-)
That's rule number one, number two is bash it with the biggest pole you find
😎

Thanks. I invoke that rule quite a few times throughout the day. I never knew there was a name for it. Now that I've learned something new, I should go home. 😀

Is that the new rule?
One must remain at work until something new is learned. Upon learning something new you are relieved for the day with full days pay. I like it.

Yeah, that would be nice. I'd vote for it here in a heartbeat. Of course, that would mean no actual work would ever get done and someone would be unhappy. Unfortunately, there are several hours left in the week before the best part of the week gets here.

Barge poles (of the 10ft kind or other length) are used to push a barge away from the walls of the canal. They're also used to push undesirable floating stuff away from your barge.

Valid suggestions. That said, it does appear spammish.

I suspect the former, though don't know enough about Access.
Same with the SQL corruption threads. Post anything with the word 'corruption' in and you'll get the spam posts plugging SQL database repair, even if the post isn't actually about a corrupt database.

WendellB has a good link using the application to see if it can fix itself, and some good advice about separating into tables and code.
That would get my vote before using any 3rd party tool.
I usually use Access as a front end to SQL or SQL Express. Much more scalable, and better backup and recovery.
At work, the official IT position was to migrate any Access db's to SQL Server.
Access was considered a user tool, and we wanted to support only SQL Server.
Most times it allowed consolidating the data into the data warehouse, where we also had a lot of other related data and dimensions not in their Access database.

Woo Hoo!!! I was able to find a coach to fill in for me today and I was able to attend my first SQL Saturday. The place is almost an hour from my house so I didn't make it in time for Steve's session at 8:30 but was able to meet up with him for a little bit in between sessions. Was good to finally get a chance to meet in person. Lunch was a bbq buffet and there was plenty for seconds. 😀

Sounds awesome. Glad you were able to attend a SQL Saturday. I have managed to attend three so far, two in Colorado Springs and one in Denver. I am hoping to be able to attend others in nearby states when I return home from Afghanistan.

That is one way to do BBQ. 😉

Sometimes advice on a blog still scares me. Not often, but sometimes. Like today
Consider using a RAMDisk for Index filegroups.
Putting non-clustered indexes on a RAMDisk will greatly improve performance
Be absolutely sure that your RAMDisk either backs itself up to disk, or at least saves and loads itself from a real disk on shutdown and startup.
This can significantly increase shutdown/startup/reboot times.
I also recommend doing regular SQL backups of these filegroups.
If the system crashes, recovering the database becomes a lot harder. Which is why backups are very important.

Good job, Sean. Other than the food, did you have fun?
