Are the posted questions getting worse?

  • Apparently lots of people are on holiday at RG, so things moving slow.

I think football season has caused issues, though I'm keeping an eye out.

I may spend some time tomorrow or Tues trying to write a job that will kill the posts that are for "Live Stream Online" or some similar phrases. Might help.

And Mr. Celko is back with his baseball bat. :Whistling:

In more than one thread. :Whistling:

Hey, don't forget that it's an ANSI baseball bat that conforms to standard 802.11.BR549.4219-2R94000-6.1-11(B).

Anybody with a solid level of experience in Service Broker able to help someone out? He's new to the site but he's definitely providing what we need and is competent. It's an intriguing puzzle, but I just don't have time to dig that deeply into it immediately.

I weighed in on it. It's a feature of the RECEIVE command, it only grabs the first conversation_handle, not just the first 1000 messages. You can alter it by using a WHERE clause, but it might still simply grab the first conversation each loop. I ran into this a while back when I had a queue of over 1 million messages. It would sit and process 30 messages at a time instead of the 500 that performance monitoring said was the most efficient.

Now he has put the bat aside and instead taken up the lynching of any beginners

I'm tempted to report some posts as spam for promoting himself without giving any valuable help.

When I see a post like that I get furious. I regard it as unacceptable behaviour in any civilised forum. Celko does it far too often.

I've succumbed to the temptation and reported it as both spam and unacceptable abuse.

But he doesn't always get it completely wrong as he did in that thread; his contribution to triggers for auditing thread raised a serious point about legal requirements for auditing.

I actually had to comment on that Tom. It is not illegal to audit changes in a DB (as far as I know, but Europeans can be weird). Change auditing is not the entirety of a legal requirement for all views (i.e. SELECT's) though, you would have to take additional steps.

  • And once again the SSC Silver Spoons are out and available, even mine.

  • Curious how the code that our silver spooner posted even worked. After declaring all the variables I still have a bunch of red squiggly lines.

Those are just there for decoration...they don't mean anything, do they? The statement "I keep getting a syntax error" couldn't possibly be related to the squiggly lines.

Also lacking is the ability to read what is posted and right in front of them.

You get beer popsicles provided? :w00t:

Unfortunately the contractually provided beer popsicles are limited to 3 per hour, but high quality naturally frozen Dortmunder only, which is a plus;-)
