I've seen some of the "duplicate question" posts, and I think they could maybe post a link to the question that got duplicated
To be fair...every single question that is posted on that site today is a duplicate. Everything to do with sql has been asked and answered on there already. 😉

I've seen some of the "duplicate question" posts, and I think they could maybe post a link to the question that got duplicated, I haven't seen the "extremely rude" or "50 percent incorrect" posts yall are talking about, although I'm sure some extremely rude posts are out there like any site has, especially with volunteer mods, but then again we're talking about people interacting on a site. And, asking clarifying questions, offering opinion, or engaging in discussion are all frowned on.
You have to admit, they pretty much shout this from the hills, so its not like you guys should be surprised or anything.
This guy can explain it better than I can:

But if you look at his profile he is full of it. He has not stopped contributing. He has several hundred points this month. He has accrued more than 4,000 points since he posted this in December 2013.
Maybe he should change the title to "I don't contribute to Stack Overflow any more, but I don't contribute any less either". 😀

He actually discusses that point in his article. The nature of the beast is that you can continue to accrue points by doing practically nothing. People still up/down vote your other answers.

Very interesting.
I hope we've avoided some of that, though I'd like to incorporate some of what SO does. I'd like to better score answers and points, though I think I'd limit the value of upvotes/downvotes, especially over time.

I also agree with you on goto. Maybe I just hate people who buy into ideas religiously, but I always thought the anti goto people were just poor programmers who couldn't keep their code clean either way.
LOL
I really loved the regex one, that I agree with and I do hope they at least keep the question there even if its locked. Still, I can see why SO doesn't like it, it certainly isn't their format!
edit: what I find so interesting about that post you linked is all the comments agreeing how awful SO is yet people still depend on it so much for finding answers, especially with the newer tech. Says something right there.

I respect and admire all you guys for your professionalism, and often restraint, in dealing with all manner of questions. Steve does a great job of reining in those of us who sometimes are a bit too casual about it.That said, I want to needle Lynn just a little bit about one of his pet peeves. Could I get a show of hands of how many people really hate starting a statement with a semicolon? (;WITH) and if so, why?
Is it just because the documentation uses the word "terminator" instead of separator? I'm one of those people who finds it much easier to read separators, such as commas, at the beginning of a line rather than at the end of a line. Functionally, it makes no difference other than when semicolons become mandatory, you'll always have to stick an extra one at the end.
Just wanted to ask this here rather than in a thread where a totally different question was being answered.
Needle away. I also don't like leading commas, but they don't bother me like starting a CTE with a semicolon.
😀
Now that you've gotten me in the habit I see your point.
My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?
My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.
Need to UNPIVOT? Why not CROSS APPLY VALUES instead?[/url]

Yeah well, SO usually turns up first in the search results. Kudos to their seo team 😀

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this. By achieving high rep/points on SO (and some do this by answering a lot of easy questions), you get mod powers. You can basically edit/delete other peoples answers and comments, without other people noticing it. In my opinion, that is just BS.
I'm in the top 10 at this site, but I can't do anything here expect modify my own posts. I can't even delete my own posts. And I like it that way.
