I'm afraid, "he-who-shall-not-be-named" is back in the forums.

I hope that I can behave well enough.

    Who? Tom Marvolo Riddle?

You know, I think that was a great series of the genre. Just like I read the Tolkien series when I was in school, I wonder if, years from now, the Potter series will be looked at just as favorably.

Except the last book. By the gods that lady needed a good strong editor to tell her NO!

I gave up 1/3 of the way through book 6. Enjoyed the first four, later ones not so much.

Same problem Robert Jordan had with Wheel of Time. Dire need of a good, strong editor to overwrite his tendency to write verbosely.

It was finished January last year.

Thank you for clueing me into Leigh Butler's re-read Gail, gave me many hours of entertainment and saved me from reading the last three books when I just didn't have the time. I'll get to them someday maybe.

As for el Potter, what irked you so much Grant? Was it the fact they were lost in the woods (and whiny, oh so very whiny) for half the dead tree leaves between the bindings? Or did you just not like the story at that point?

Personally, I kind of enjoyed how it became excruciatingly obvious that although everyone was convinced it was about Harry, it was never really about Harry, he couldn't do squat on his own.

It was 200 pages of whining in the forest that did me in. It did nothing for the characters or the story. Someone should have cut it.

Sorry, probably conflating it with the entire series being up for a Hugo this year, which I think is just weird.

The last 4 (Knife of Dreams, The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight, Memory of Light) are well worth reading. They're way better than the previous few (books 7-10), some of (in my opinion) best parts of the entire series are in the last 3 (Rand on Dragonmount especially)

That's pretty much what did me in, just in book 6.

The last two were hard going, really wanted someone to just slap Harry, very hard and repeatedly...

So are you saying it read like a tech book?

Better yet, what if people just started throwing in a couple hundred pages of fiction (story form) into their SQL books?

I wish. BOL has been losing stuff, though it has become a mystery as I have to start guessing which category a DMV might be in to find it.

BOL is getting old and you know what they say is the second thing to go as you get older?

I forget what that is. 😉
