Whew, busy times at work lately. I've been out of The Thread for a good bit :-).

Anyone else from The Thread planning to attend this week's SQL Saturday in Atlanta? I noticed that Grant and Jason are both presenting a session there; I'll definitely be attending both! It's the first time I'll be at a programming-based activity, so I'm giddy about loading up with plenty of knowledge πŸ˜€

Better late than never - but hope you enjoyed the event.

Hope you enjoyed my session as well. Not sure if we had a chance to meet. Plenty of people stopping me.

Oh, I quite enjoyed your session also :-D. Very informative, and Wayne's car hunt in the middle of it was thoroughly amusing. I would've stopped by afterwards for a chat, but my brain was pretty much mush at that point; I'd hardly slept the night before (very noisy hotel neighbors, argh!), and I lucked out on forming a coherent sentence when I talked to Grant. I figured I shouldn't risk making myself appear to be a complete buffoon, since I'm already partially one :-P.

Well, as a buffoon you would have been in good company with other buffoons such as myself.

Glad you enjoyed the session. It'd be nice to put a face with your name tho ;-).

  • DBCC TIMEWARP?

I was tempted to suggest that only IBG and Jeff's queries can run that fast. Also, that queries running that fast can overheat the processor and should be slowed down with a WHILE loop or triangular join :hehe:

I don't know the answer to her/his question but suspect something silly (s)he's doing. The OP's posting history suggests a haphazard way of working which can be difficult for responders to correctly interpret. Any takers? You'll need Crystal Ball v12.0 for Windows.

Well Grant made that look easy, he must get Crystal Ball v12.0 through RedGate or something.

Since when did "-ve" become a thing? "+" and "-" already mean "positive" and "negative", "-ve" = "negative-ive". Ran into that in my last class at school in the prof's slides, spent 20 minutes trying to figure out what I was missing, which variable he was naming "ve", before realizing the exceedingly ridiculous solution.

I get it. But that notation is just silly and redundant.

And I think the correct translation is negativeve.

That's SQL Crystal Ball Pro v12.1. Have to keep up with the versions and the Pro version comes with a command line.

So -ve means negative? In what programming language? That's not one I've run into before and it's certainly WAY less than clear.

Certainly so! I suppose this means I'll just have to attend the next event you'll be presenting at :-D. If I can, anyhow... I've been dying to go to a SQL Saturday, PASS event, or usergroup meeting for the longest time, but none of them are ever around where I live and work. Atlanta was pretty close, but still about 120 miles away. Still, if I can manage the time, I'll be attending a lot more sessions!

120 miles from ATL - north or south? There's a SQLSat coming to Raleigh in Sept, how close is that to you? (I plan on going there)

Unfortunately, Wayne, I didn't make it to your session :(. I really wanted to, but when I woke up that morning at 7 (which amounted to... 2 hours of sleep at that point, in intermittent bits?), I just knew I was going to be a worthless blob if I attended anything. Slept two more hours, woke up in some state of functionality, and tottered off to the college.

I'm north of ATL, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Raleigh... I think that might be doable? I'll have to take a look at the distance and the timing. It could work! If so, I'll definitely make it a point to attend πŸ˜€

EDIT: Eep. Raleigh's about 460 miles from me, an 8-hour drive :(. Well! I'll just have to see if there's an affordable flight I could book. Maybe. Plenty of planning time, at least!
