If you are ever in Edina MN, you might want a tour.
Spendy, but that in a nutshell is what it is describing.
You buy it by the rack (of like 10 servers), and it is modular.
Maybe there's one closer to you.

Sometimes I wonder if people really want help.
"Sample data please"
"I don't see the point" "It won't be of any benefit"
"Expected results please"
"It's not going to help"

If you are ever in Edina MN, you might want a tour.. . .
If you come to WA, you might want to have a tour if the Quincy computing facility. I think I can get you one.
(Although, believe me, it is boring. Rack servers? If you saw one, you have seen 'em all. Better to spend your time touring of one of the most excellent local breweries of wineries.)

Yes, they do. They just do not how to ask. Which is of course their problem, but I still feel compelled to help.

The person that I think you're talking about has certainly been around long enough to know better and has asked other people to post data in the past. That makes it even more frustrating. Even after he finally caved in and posted data, it didn't match the original problem posted.
There have been times where I've wanted to type "No problem. Moving on." So far, I've been able to suppress that urge but it is getting old.

The person in the incident that I think Gail is talking about has been around for a very long time and has, himself, asked people to post data. That, notwithstanding, the article that most of us point people to explains all of the reasons to post readily consumable data. The hard part is getting them to actually read the article to begin with. I can understand that because they're normally in a panic when they post, want instant gratification, and don't see the benefit of looking at the article. Like I said, though, it is getting old and since I don't like to post untested coded solutions, I sometimes just silently move on to help someone that has taken the time to help me help them.

My point, exactly, Jeff.
You just cannot help people who are not ready to be helped.

I will keep that in mind - ever get to Tacoma?
The Tech Center talks about the technology. So yes, racks of servers behind glass is boring.
Local Brew Pubs are always something I seek out when traveling.

Jeff's point about posting tested solutions says volumes.
Posting data gets everyone on the same page much quicker.
I like to say sometimes slower is indeed faster.
Not everyone gets paid for rework - sometimes it just gets added to the plate.

Posting data also helps to clarify the question and lets people recreate the problem. Without knowing the question, we don't know what to answer. Without being able to recreate the problem, we can't test anything. If a question is asked well, it has a better chance of being answered well.
