Merry Christmas to all. And may your pork chops arrive peacefully on plates, not violently on your occiputs.

In my Christmas tradition, it is a carp today, and a fowl (in my case duck) tomorrow.
I just want to renew my promise that whenever you are near this postal code, I will make my best to convince you that there is such thing as drinkable bourbon.
Other threadizens, we can always haggle over the bill, but I hope we will get together, soon.
Merry Christmas to all people of good will - among which I trust and hope to count you.

Steve, I have a QA request: please add a 'Do not count towards messages posted' check box for a reply.
I feel really guilty sending a message to a friend - Tom, in this case - as opposed to, say, answering a plight of a poor soul in India who needs help on a Sunday PST.
Thanks, and the most Merry Christmas, Steve.

Merry Christmas to all!
And may your New Years be filled with new learning opportunities, lasting relationships, new friends, good health and prosperous ventures.
My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?
My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.

Right now, if I were in one of those old-time jungle movies, I'd be saying "I don't like it, it's too quiet."
I could've parked just about anywhere in the lot or structure this morning. Was the first guy to the office, and there's only something like 4 of us in here today (normally more like ~20-30 of us)...
Tempted to ask the boss if I can bug out and just work 4hrs...
Also: To all, hope you had a happy holiday!
To Lynn: You and everyone there, stay safe!

I'm not sure this is worth the work, but I understand the sentiment. We are talking about ways we can make some posts count more than others, or perhaps, less.

Out of town yesterday, so no posts for me, but I hope everyone had a peaceful, happy day.

I'm not sure I see the point in the points anyway. They are not worth anything... unless, Steve, you can turn them into Bitcoin!?!? That would be 😎

Or perhaps, don't count messages posted in "The Thread"??? Not sure how others feel about that.

Don't feel guilty - there are many good reasons to "count" those posts even if you are trying to keep an accurate measurement of "helpfulness". It may not have answered a particular technical question, but it may have:
--Helped build/grow the SQL Server community
--Improved relationships between professionals
--Encouraged others to participate on the forums by building a comfortable environment (Not just Tom, but all us lurkers like a nice friendly place to hang out)
--Perhaps Tom needed a lifting of spirit or feeling of friendship (not saying you do Tom, just sayn' it could have)
--Several others that don't come to mind right off, I'm sure.
There have been times that I've gone to lunch with a group just to build better relationships... I called it work, and in my opinion this falls under the same general heading. Just because our chatter is lighter in this thread doesn't make it unimportant. In my mind, it's just as important as some of the other threads that are more technical in nature. I know that without the thread, I probably wouldn't visit SSC as often, nor have as frequent interaction with good, high-caliber SQL folk. So thank you for helping make this a nice water cooler to hang out around.
