Not that I would stoop so low as to beg for votes, but I do need a new costume (Star trek if anyone cares)

    😀 :hehe: 😉

I am ready to stoop so low, so you can vote for me in the category Best New Voice.

    😀 😎

    Speak up...I can't hear you. 😛

Some of the questions on there are pretty strange.

They're supposed to be. It's light-hearted with a side of jokes and so are the prizes. The prizes for the 3 categories I've been nominated in are: a megaphone, a couple of drinks, a costume.

I assumed it is light-hearted and that "winning" is very possibly more like losing because you get some silly booby prize and public humiliation as your "award". 😀

No humiliation, that's not Red Gate's style. It's just a light-hearted competition where winning will likely be more for the boasting rights than the actual prizes

  • Wow, that's a heck of a questionairre. #10 is particularly difficult to decide on.

However, good luck on your costume. 😉

You have to be knee-deep into #sqlfamily to know about most nominations.

    Being on twitter helps though.

I hate to lose this many nerd points but I have never used twitter. I did however just setup an account. Seems like one of those things that is difficult to learn because there is zero explanation about what it is and any of the icons mean.

    Short version: Life.

Self-inflicted financial wounds recovery, a couple of projects kicking my arse at work (thus little time during workday), learning Pinnacle Movie Making software and doing Let's Play videos (and the beginnings of a tutorial series) for a game I enjoy, Guild Wars 2 and going raiding with friends, many nights out destressing from previously mentioned projects (and causing some said self-inflicted wounds), trying to do some of the handy man work on my house (and car... stupid car...) ... and a bunch of other things I've neglected to mention.

That and I needed a break from here. My frustration level with some particular folks around here was reaching a head and I realized the problem was on my end of the keyboard. I should be good now. Appreciate you asking, though. 🙂

Yeah, me too. In order to have put in an automatic standby I would have had to have brought in propane in addition to the generator and that all wasn't in the budget, especially since it's usually only a couple of days a year, if that much, that I need it.

We have auto standby on propane with 100lb tanks. One can last (I think) 3.5 days at half load. I keep two around.

Really? Strange? I'd say fun. Whimsical.

I'm just bummed because I've already had a beer with everyone on the list. Except Gail. She had a juice while I had a beer.

Well strange was not a good choice of words. Some are quite difficult to answer because there is no single choice that would work. On questions like who do you want a beer with, I was looking for an all of the above or something. Sort of like the who goes above and beyond, there is no single best choice there. All of those people go way beyond regularly (which of course is why they are on the list).

Well I seem to be digging my hole deeper and deeper at this point. :hehe:

  • I'm curious as to the different ways that you fine folks have seen / dealt with being on-call, and what you perceive the pros/cons of these are?

    For instance:

on-call for a week at a time, rotating weeks.

on-call for a day at a time, rotating days.

    etc.

    Thanks!

  • That was a pretty interesting survey. I would have liked to pick more than one answer on some, but then we'd probably end up with a bunch of tie scores. I am interested to see how the vote distribution for each question after the survey is closed.
